Crunchy is the solo project and passion of former Galactic Cowboys bassist/songwriter, Monty Colvin. Monty began his musical career playing in cover and touring bands before joining The Awful Truth. After the lone Awful Truth cd was released on Metal Blade Records, Monty went on to form Houston-based, Galactic Cowboys. Though they had only been together 6 months, GC was signed by Geffen Records, and recorded 2 albums (the self-titled debut and Space In Your Face.) In 95', the Cowboys were picked up by Metal Blade Records, where they recorded 5 more cd's (Machine Fish, The Horse That Bud Bought, Feel The Rage EP, At The End Of The Day, and Let It Go). At the end of a 10 year run, Galactic Cowboys had done numerous tours with King's X, Dream Theater, Savatage, Overkill and Anthrax...as well as making 6 videos and appearing on MTV and Headbanger's Ball....AND let's not forget the cool (however brief) appearance in the movie Airheads...where GC contributed the song Don't Hate Me (Cause I'm Beautiful)..and the back of Monty's head can be seen for 1 and a half seconds!
In 2000, Monty left GC to begin a new musical journey he would call, Crunchy. After signing with SAR Records, he recorded his solo debut, All Day Sucker. Though there were high hopes, the cd was killed by the sudden collapse of SAR who went belly-up only a couple months after the release. Not to be stopped, Monty built his own studio and recorded a follow-up cd in 2003, Clown School Dropout. For the next 4 years, Monty worked on a concept cd called Loserville...The story of a relationship between a punk-girl and a nerd. All vocals, guitars and basses on Loserville were performed by Colvin, except for a guitar solo by one of Monty's biggest influences, Kerry Livgren (Kansas).
Though Monty handles most of the duties while recording, he has put together a live version of Crunchy that will be destroying stages and eardrums.
