About Me

To cut a long story short... Morgue were formed around 1987/88 during the heyday of Thrash Metal and embodied the young energy crossing metal back in those days. As, probably, the first band on their hometown on the more extreme end of the metal spectrum, being first meant all the difficulties were to be felt firsthand, like the challenge of finding a decent place to rehearse, or even a place at all.
Their first gig happened on February, 1990, and drew around 400 people in a clear sign of the scarcity of metal shows; as nothing else could justify such a gathering for a band with some members still in their teens playing their first ever show. After that first show came another one on the same month and then an unfortunate series of events ensued...
Losing their rehearsal space a short time after the second gig, the band was thrown into their first hiatus that lasted months before they could find another place. When this was finally achieved, and the rehearsals restarted, the first of quite a few line-up changes happened, leaving only two fifths of the original members, and, guess what... after the line-up was rebuilt the band found itself with no place to rehearse, again!
The following years saw the band constantly battling with line-up changes and the availability of practicing spaces that would eventually create, for several times, stopgaps that would last months or even years in a row.
The new millennium came with the remaining members Manel Toga, Jorge Silva and Raul Filipe still being too stubborn or too stupid to give up. When faced with the need to rebuild the band yet one more time, they decided to bring into the game a double-bass player (Henrique Fernandes) instead of a “traditional” bass player, which proved to be somewhat of a turning point as the band would afterwards incorporate two new members that would change the shape of the usual line-up: Nelson (to play French-horn and synths) and Samuel (to play violin).
Finally with the first complete line-up in years, and a rehearsal room to match, the band were offered, in 2005, the chance to play their first show in fifteen years by their mates from the band Genocide. All the members were thrilled by the show and by the feedback they got afterwards but, sadly, the dark moon brooding over the band made its’ presence felt once again on the aftermath of the show as a series of events like damaged instruments, blown-up amps and personal affairs threw the band to yet another indefinite hiatus...
