About Me

I work as a digital designer at The Tennessean. I love super flashy sites and slick design. I'm not a tech-nerd, but I love geeky things. That was my first lie. I'm really a tech-nerd. But, I'm also big into: outdoors, cycling, running and rock climbing.I go by "Neutron Star" in addition to a myriad of other nicknames. I mostly suck the productivity from the department through thorough gossiping and talking, which I like to say is actually communicating. It borders on blackholishness ... which I know isn't even a word. Euphemisms are also a big part of my world.Favorite Quotes I live by:- "What this world needs, is more storytellers." - me (I feel often times that the world of art succumbs to that which is popular and forgets that the original purpose is to tell a story whether it's visually, through music, or in prose.)- "We are all endowed to certain inalienable rights" - startup.com- "I will not swap my certain glory for your undependable love." - The Libertine (This could be why I find myself more single than not.)- "I don't worry when I get lost, I just change the direction I'm going" - Anna's plaque to me."I'm just a little cynical right now." said I. "Wow ... isn't that the understatement of the month." Replied my momma."It really pisses me off when people write your, when what they really mean is you're for you are! Damn." - me"You don't even know what you don't even know." - Patrick, my boss."I really hate that high-resolution orange thing in the sky." - Michael"Be careful ... she's like a neutron star. Be careful not to get sucked in." - Patrick to Jim. (Too late.)"Now we're going to wrap this in a div and cover this in CSS." Michael "I'd like to be wrapped in a div and covered in CSS ... that sounds awesome." Knight. Only Knight.

My Interests

Web design, geek design, typography, Flash ... anything computer related (except the hardcore hardware talk makes me zone) is pretty interesting. Artsy stuff ... totally there.

I'd like to meet:

People with stories. I'm curious about everything and ask a ton of questions and have a wild version of ADD. Or something akin to that, which doesn't require medication, just a rapt attention to something distracting. Shiny usually works. Or Flash animation. If I don't ask questions or argue with you, I'm probably bored.

Music:

I'm still a fan of random exposure ... thank you Pandora and your music genome project. I have a bunch of favorites: Zoe Keating, AFI, Vast, Hurt, Elbow, Morcheeba, U2, Nobody, Leaves, Delaware, Paradise Lost, Razed in Black, Kent, Atomic Babies, Morrisey, My Chemical Romance, does anyone really read this?, Alice in Chains, Bjork, Cold War Kids, Drain 5th, Flogging Molly, Muse, Heart (which is my all-time favorite), Hole, Gorillaz, Interpol, Killswitch Engage, Lords of Acid, Lisa McKormick, Tori Amos, The Sleepy Jackson, The Scissor Sisters, Kidney Thieves, The Mars Volta, Portishead, Sufjan Stevens, Massive Attack, The Human Value, The Knife, Panic at the Disco, Zeromancer, Ultraspank, Tom Waits, Mia, The Perfect Circle/Tool, Deftones, System of a Down, Static X, Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, Pushmonkey, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke/Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Chris Whitley, Memphis Slim, PJ Harvey, Goldfrapp, The Ataris, They Might be Giants, The Used, Rasputina, that trippy trip hop, sometimes blues, sometimes rock, never country.

Movies:

Since I packed up all my dvd's and have only bought/brought a few since moving around I have: Donnie Darko, Alexander, The 300, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Val Kilmer=yes:Salton Sea, the one where he played John Holmes and pretty much any movie with him or Christopher Walken: Prophecy series, Suicide Kings and beyond) V for Vendetta, Devil's Advocate, A Scanner Darkly, THX 1138. My secret guilty pleasures also include Sci-Fi flicks, and as much as I abhor to admit it (and adamantly deny), yes, even Star Wars (although the newest ones were la-haaaaame.) ... I mean, who doesn't love an Ewok? ... Dark Crystal, Dark City, The Crow, Willow, The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth are some of my all-time favorites.

Television:

One day, a class assignment required that we turn on the TV and watch the daily news. I hadn't watched TV for about two years. The day I turned the TV back on, Katrina was getting ready to make landfall. Subsequent mass media hysteria has done enough to deter me from continuing to watch it. Ironic, I know.

Books:

Anything from Kurt Vonnegut. But, between reading Web design books and blogs, netvibes and social networking stuff ... anything goes. Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen Hawking, Carl Sagan and William Gibson, etc.

Heroes:

The Amazon clan of Women.
