I often don't know what I think until I notice what I'm humming. - Mary Campbell

About Me

I can procrastinate myself into extreme states of boredom. Actually, I'm only ever really, truly, capital "Buh!" Bored when I have something I'm supposed to do, but don't want to... I love naps. I drink too much coffee. I have been accused of sneaking up on people, not smiling enough, being "too nice," talking in circles, and being secretly Amish. I like to write, but usually don't get past the initial "a-ha!" flurry of scribbling... I think a discussion of M Theory, String Theory, or whatever the kids are calling it these days, to be some of the best foreplay I can imagine. I wish for simplicity but usually just manage to complicate my life - not in a bad way, just in a complicated way... I never really recovered from my best friend moving too eff-ing far away. In a parallel universe I'm either a computer hacker or a physicist. I pick up mannerisms and vocal inflections from people around me, and I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm a composite of everyone I've ever met... I rescue odd little pieces of old glassware and china from thrift stores. I have more vintage purses, books, and aprons that any one human should own. Or, rather, "...any one human in a one bedroom apartment..." Oh, and rather than make more than one trip to/from the car, I usually choose to load myself down like a sherpa...

My Interests

thinking, listening, reading, thai iced tea, deconstructing T-shirts, segues, intuition, negative space, low-tech kitchen gadgets, my "fireplace" perfume, furniture with stories and battle scars, Eddie Izzard, showers that are hotter than most humans can tolerate, sleeping in eyeshades, found objects, taping cryptic fortune cookie messages to my monitors, strong coffee, ...classic cars with engines that growl...

I'd like to meet:

hmmm.... I want to meet the people I see every day on my commute, but have virtually no interaction with - the ones I've made up countless stories about. I want to find out if any of my imaginary stories are true... Also, the very first person to crack open durian and think "hmmmm... I think I'll eat that..." There are a few questions I'd really like to ask this person...

The Question

A young man asked his grandfather why life had to be so difficult sometimes. This was the old man's reply. Grandfather says this: "In life there is sadness as well as joy, losing as well as winning, f...

Answers only come to those who Ask.

I am a curious, observant person by nature. Pair that with an active - overactive? - imagination, and my day to day world is filled with impressions, opinions, and wonder about my surroundings and the...

Do you take this Man... of the Cloth?

ha! I have a story burning a hole in my pocket, and I couldn't figure out who to tell - other than who was already there for it, or the few I've already told. This will sound familiar to some - and uh...

Turn your Rut into a Groove

I intentionally ripped off the title of this entry - I saw it in a catalog recently, and it struck a cord with me. I am not a card-carrying optimist, but I have my moments - I like being reminded tha...

Stop.

In the past few months, my life has taken on the flavor of a twisted game of Jenga. Start with a neatly stacked tower of blocks and see how many you can pull out of place and set on top of the gr...

Retroactive advice

I heard this song on the way home yesterday, and I'd forgotten the song even existed. As I listened, I remembered how much I like some of the lyrics. I figured I'd share, so here they are... &nbs...

Seek and Find

Taking a few days off this past weekend, I had the opportunity for a mini-road trip. My boyfriend lives on the other side of the state and is usually the one to do the driving. However, since I was a...

Frankenstein

Of all my named and personified electronic/mechanical pieces, Frankenstein is the tortoise of the herd. (Side note: okay, okay...  the mixed references in that whole tortoise/herd thing comb...

The Envelope, Please...

I have a theory about working in the Psych field - that everyone is just a little bit "off center" - usually in harmless ways - and the fun part of the job is finding out who you can rely on to say or...

Evil Steve

For those of you who have read my profile recently, (Uh, hello? Anyone out there??), you may have noticed the reference to my tendency to name electronic/mechanical gadgets that co...
