Henry D was born in the south of Africa (Zambia) and has had a passion for music from his early childhood. He learnt to play the guitar at age eleven and started creating his own music shortly after that. He first came to the Czech Republic over twenty years ago in pursuit of studies. After obtaining a masters degree at the Agricultural University in Prague, he decided to try and continue with his musical activities here in Europe.
In 1996, he formed a funky rap band with guitarist Vojtech Perina which he named Forbidden Fruit. For over four years he played numerous concerts all over the country with this group and also worked with other groups, e.g., Grass Craft, Takin’ Off, Space Junkie, Tony’s Blues Band and more. He later met multi-instrumentalist and producer Djei Gogo from the Ivory Coast, and the two started working on different projects together. They have maintained their cooperation to date and Henry D was often cooperating with Djei’s band United Flavour. The rapper has performed alongside e.g. Method Man, GZA, Kelis, Pharcyde, Carl Cox, Africa Islam, and more.
In 2007 Henry D started to work on his solo album under production supervision of Djei. The solo album was named “Man of Honor†and was released on the 27th of April 2009 on label SubPub Records. The CD includes mainly hip-hop beats mixed with R&B, soul and a distinct touch of African melodies and rhythms. However, most of the songs have strong melodies and a big potencial to become hits even in mainstream medias. There are also many international guests featuring on the album. Amongst these were Czech rapper Hugo Toxxx, Spanish singer of United Flavour Sista Carmen, King Kalabash & Baron Black aka Big Famili from the Caribean island of Martinique, rapper Mr. Le Monde from the U.S., singer of German band King Banana U-Cee and a lady with a soulful voice Tereza Nekudova. The CD was mastered in the internationally recognized Real Master studio in Dakar, Senegal, by Alexandre Patino who also mastered the most known African reggae singer Alpha Blondy and other black music stars.
