  • BIO

The Will McBride Group is a guitar-based jazz trio that presents a truly unique blend of jazz, edgy funk/pop and Latin stylings, full of rich color-chording, impressive melodic solo and vocal work, all supported with superb rhythmic backing. Think Steely Dan meets Antonio Carlos Jobim meets Wes Montgomery! The group has performed on shows with Nantucket, Latin grammy saxophonist David Sanchez, and The John Brown Quintet.
The Will McBride Group is a guitar/bass/drums trio playing all things jazz...like:
  • jazz from the great pioneers (Montgomery, Monk, Getz, Miles, etc)
  • contemporary jazz artists (Jarreau, Golub)
  • latin jazz (Jobim)
  • jazz arrangements of pop tunes (Steely Dan, S. Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Spinners etc.)
  • original jazz-injected pop compositions from Will's solo CD "As Yet...".
    The Members
Will McBride (guitar, vocals) – An accomplished guitarist/composer/songwriter, Will is known for melodic and inovative soloing, as well as colorful chording necessary to keep a trio sounding full. Will has shared the stage with many well-known musicians over his 30 year musical career. Notably, he toured the southeastern US with the late St. Claire Pinckney (tenor sax for “Godfather of Soul” James Brown). Will’s Wilmington-based jazz group THE QUICK featured drummer Sam Bryant (later toured with Kenny Wayne Shepherd). Will has also worked with members of the .38 Special, Original Drifters, and Atlanta blues guitar legend Roger “Hurricane” Wilson
Jeff Hatley (electric & upright bass) – A veteran session bassist in the Charlotte area, and regular bassist with The Alamance Jazz Ensemble, Jeff joined The Fifth Dimension during a tour stop at Sprit Square in Charlotte and is a former member of the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra. Jeff is as comfortable with swing and latin standards as he is with funk. But he can also step out and do lead as well. Jeff contributed both bass and cello to Will’s As Yet… CD.
Chris Conley (drums/percussion) – Hailing from the NY area, as a teenager, Chris performed with Philly greats Joey DeFrancesco and GRP percussionist Joe Meckler, and at the age of 21, was performing 120 shows a year w/ an 8-piece horn band, landing him a Zildjian Cymbals product endorsement. Chris has performed at some of NYC’s legendary stages, including CBGB, the Elbow Room, and the Bitter End, and has performed with touring members of The Yardbirds and The Animals. Deeply anchored in a funk pocket, his sense of groove has a conviction evident in all musical styles. His Latin percussion and swing styles make him an excellent completion to The Will McBride Group....and the crowd says...
"...we loved you! We truly enjoyed your performance. You will hear from us again. Thank you so much. EXCELLENT!" - James Hester, Orange County Rec & Parks Director
"...we really enjoyed having you guys back again! You are sounding really really good." - Cliff Morgan, proprietor, The Flipside
"...your band obviously has the licks to be a national act." JT Austin, Creative Services Director, WZTK
