..There are many boxes with many words about me, but can any of them give more than the barest hint of a persons personality? I think to do that you have to ask questions, talk with a person and often just be observant of their actions. So, this is just a collection of facts about what I do and labels that come close to defining me.
I'm generally seen as a down to earth kind of person. I think I have my emotional house in order most of the time and strive to always keep working on it. I see personal growth as a very important part of life.
I'm very open minded and non judgmental, more so than most people I meet. I may not agree or enjoy what others are or do but I respect them for it. At least where cultural or personal preferences are concerned.
I can be driven about things I have a strong belief in, but more often than not I just go with the flow. Burning Man, because of the good things I've gotten from it is one of the things I'm driven about. But I also try and keep it toned down so that I don't end up building any more 30' pyramids.
Im polyamorous (look it up) not a swinger and don't like that label. It means I have a girl friend, she is married, he knows and supports it and I'm maybe someday open to other people in my life in addition. There are many ways to be poly just like anything else, my version tends to need very deep connections with people before moving to anything intimate. But that's not to say I'm entirely apposed to less meaningful things, it's just not my best case.
I'm also a naturist/nudist and as long as people around me are comfortable with it I may choose not to dress. Lack of clothing to me is so normal and natural that I sometimes wonder if the world (Americans in particular) doesn't have some unnamed mental disease. How can the form of our own species be so taboo?
I don't go to resorts often, preferring to be in the woods, desert, beach, on the water, etc.
I can be kind of spiritual, but not religious. Which means I think about the nature of things quite a bit. Why am I here? What is the universe made of? Etc. This drives much of my scientific curiosity as well.
I'm both a geek and kind of an artist, or at least like to think creatively. Thinking out side the box is a joy. Things like henna and body painting, building things (pyramids, domes, butterfly bikes, etc.), or really whatever comes to mind. Not much in the traditional art sense.
Why "Naked Mike"? At my first year at Burning Man a group of virtual strangers camped together (it was great). 4 or so of us had the common name of "Mike". Which can get kind of frustrating. So, at one point my friend Mel got fed up with it and renamed all the "mike's" on the spot. One person was cooking and got named "chef", I happened to be naked (often am) so I was dubbed "Naked Mike". After a life changing week in that environment, and several years later it just stuck and became my name. I'm known as "Naked Mike" far more than I am known as just "Mike". It's kind of odd, but hey, it does fit.
