I haven’t been a New Brunswick scene-star in a few years now but my eyes always drift homeward to the town that changed me so much. I like the fact that music in certain areas is cyclical and for every crop of kids that gets a little old and jaded, there is always a new group of artists and musicians to take their place. It keeps things fresh and innovative and if there’s one thing that always inspires, it’s idealism.
Where’s Alaska is a New Brunswick NJ band that combines a variety of sounds to create a fun indie project that sounds a bit like Bright Eyes and a bit like another old favorite Outsmarting Simon. Nice solos and harmonica playing in the track fireflies vs the sunrise. The band kicks up the reverb and gets a little moodier for the track We Created Clocks. All together a fine band that I wouldn’t mind spending an afternoon in a basement checking out.
