A friend is one before whom I may think aloud. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

About Me

I have often tried to describe myself in a few sentences... or words: teacher, musician, math-favored, traveler... but it all becomes trite. and I am not a good enough writer to come up with a witty quip about myself to include here. so, instead, I become philosophical and pseudo-deep. it isn't pretty, yet there I am.

My Interests

music: piano, vocals; tennis; v-ball; travel; Europe; reading

I'd like to meet:

after God, it's difficult to narrow it down

Music:

Though, as I've grown older, I've begun to buy less and less music, it is still something I enjoy. I always said that I like all music except rap and country. But, that probably isn't completely true. My favorite genres of music include jazz (specifically vocal standards), some folk music and alternative/rock -- the likes of Harry Connick Jr., David Gray, Ella Fitzgerald, U2, Damien Rice, Sixpence None the Richer... And, I must admit, I do love musical theatre. I grew up with it - what can I say??

Movies:

Movies definitely can be a vice for me. My favorites are what I would call films instead of movies. Yeah, I like the art films, foreign films and dramas. I enjoy a good, smart comedy from time to time or a nice adventure flick. However, dumb comedies are the worst. Ugh! Some of my favorite films include Schindlers' List; Signs; Moulin Rouge; Star Wars; LOTR; Princess Bride; Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells.

Television:

Recently, I have been watching Heroes, LOST, American Idol, Arrested Development, and The Office.

Books:

FICTION: "Silence" by Shusako Endo; "Posionwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver; "Many Waters", "A House Like a Lotus", "A Live Coal in the Sea" by Madeleine LEngle; "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom; "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein; "1984" by George Orwell; "The Chronicles of Narnia" by CS Lewis; "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde; "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel; "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee; "The Never Ending Story" by Michael Ende; "Ender's Game", "Ender's Shadow" by Orson Scott Card; "Harry Potter" Series by JK Rowling; "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini;NONFICTION: "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis; "The Inner Voice of Love" by Henri Nouwen; "The Final Quest" by Rick Joyner; "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller; "Searching for God Knows What" by Donald Miller; "Whats So Amazing About Grace?" by Phillip Yancey; "The Jesus I Never Knew" by Phillip Yancey; "Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell; "Wild at Heart" by John Eldridge "Irresistible Revolution" by Shane Claiborne
