About Me

MIRIAM SPEYER
I am grateful, beyond any means of expression, to be a musician. Ultimately, I was always a musician, but for a long time I wasn’t able to realize it. Things like self-doubt, disbelief and lack of focus had their way with me for many years! Then, I was brought to a new understanding, which allows me to give music a very significant place in my life. I’m not saying that my life was completely pointless before I decided to be a musician, it was just more confusing. All that self-doubt business still creeps in from time to time too, but it’s becoming much easier to push it away.
It may be of interest to you that I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have three sisters. Ever since I was very little, my family and I sang four-part hymns in front of the church. I started playing guitar in the summer of 2006. That’s also when I started writing songs. Currently I am investing most of my musical energy in the band “NEW BLEND” and in expanding my repertoire as a jazz vocalist.
If you’re interested in specific musical achievements of mine or other info, send me a message.
NEW BLEND
It was during a collaborative effort between Miriam, Kyle Lesley and Bebop that NEW BLEND was conceived. This core trio—two guitars, horn and voice—has expanded at times, adding new people and sounds to the blend. More recently, Adam Finkin has joined the group on upright bass. Whether at a private party, on a street corner or in a bar, the mellow, sweet, intricate sound of this group has continuously captured attention throughout the bay area.
