New York to Nowhere, in its founding form was forged out of both lifelong friendships and a fortunate relocation. Novice musicians Caleb (bass) and Wesley (drums) Everhart as well as Jeremi Thompson (vocals, guitar) who had all grown up together in the small, rural town of Morristown, Indiana shared an interest in the new SoCal, three-piece, punk rock sound. In early 2001, taking a name from the popular MxPx song “New York to Nowhere” a band was formed. Originally playing all ages venues (a necessity until everyone had turned 21), the guys played fast and hard gaining a local Morristown following as well as participating in local festivals and being heard on a Shelbyville, Indiana radio station. The band released their first album “Puninteded” in July 2002 and sold out all 750 copies in the first year. Around the middle of 2003, Jeremi took a short break, which left openings for a guitar player and vocalist that needed filled. Wesley, who was playing drums in his church’s band, met a new guitar player there, Grant Walker, which expressed an interest in the pop-punk musical style similar to what NYTN had been playing. Grant had just moved to Indianapolis and had never played in a band before. After a quick audition, Caleb and Wes could see that Grant’s style was what they were looking for. The 3 guys began writing songs and experimenting with vocalists. No one could be found to take Jeremi’s place that had his energy and Jeremi soon found that he couldn’t stay away from music. Upon Jeremi’s return, it was immediately clear to everyone that NYTN worked much better as a 4 piece giving them a much fuller sound and more room for creativity with vocals and guitar. In 2007, NYTN had been hard at work playing several shows a month and recording their 2nd album with the revised lineup entitled “A Sense of Urgency”. The songs on this record come from as far back as 2003 (Fade Out, Slipping Away) with the original three piece lineup and span all the way to mid-2006 (Need You to Stay, No Room In Hell). Listening to the album one can readily distinguish the diferences in styles as the band has matured over the past three years. Early 2008 brought another change in the line up. Founding drummer, Wes Everhart, took a job in North Carolina leaving a position open for new life and musical influence. It wasn’t long before a cyber search produced our current drummer, Nesta. Nesta brings several years experience in the punk and hardcore scene, playing locally at venues in his teens then in the Chicago area in his early 20s. The bands 3rd album “Misfits & Marters” is in development and expected to have a late 2009 release. The band is growing and gaining popularity quickly in the ever-progressing Indianapolis music scene and as one Myspace.com blogger who goes by “Drifter” wrote: “I’d catch them soon if I was you. Otherwise you could be paying a lot more to see them in the future.”
