Striving to Comprehend no longer exists. But here is our old bio, for kicks and giggles. If you knew us while we were alive, please leave us some love for old time's sake.
Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of ___________.
1. Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of non-human life forms that would be classified as protista.
Nah, not quite...
2. Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of anti-social, emo, angry-at-the-world teenagers.
...No.
3. Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of optimistic, happy-go-lucky teenagers who never actually strive to comprehend anything.
You're not very good at this.
4. Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of bifocal-wearing grammar nazis.
Well... that's a bit closer...
5. Striving to Comprehend is a high school band composed entirely of musically-inclined girls who are often underappreciated by their classmates because of the fact that they aren't hot guys.
How'd you know?
Hi. We're STC. STC can stand for whatever you want it to... such as Sine Tangent Cosine, Speeding Through Cincinnati, Smurf the Cow, Stubbed Toe Complaints, Samaritan Training Corps, or, if you'd like, Striving to Comprehend. We're an all-female high school band from Mankato, Minnesota. We can't honestly say we have a genre aside from "Other," and if you decide to come to one of our "Upcoming Shows" as you rightly should, you'd see why.
Beth Goebel (high school senior) formed STC in early 2001 as a band of one until late 2002 when her good friend Kate Lindberg (high school senior) joined. Annie Burkhart (high school junior) made her way in around mid 2003, and Laura Larson-Cody (high school graduate) followed at the very end of 2005. In the early summer of 2006, Elta Sparks (high school junior) joined the band to help out while Kate was busy and to take Laura's place when she left for college. Mid-summer of 2006, STC said goodbye to Laura, and the band is now back to four members.
As a side note, STC seems to like switching back and forth between talking in first and third person.
STC has only just recently begun "getting out there" and playing shows, but they've already had the opportunity to play some wicked shows. Aside from sharing the stage with some local friends, they've appeared with:
Quietdrive
The Forecast
The Sleeping
Royden
Tokyo Rose
Small Towns Burn a Little Slower
Socratic
Tourmaline
Ludo
House of Fools
Asking Abby
Down and Above
STC has a few rough versions of songs recorded, but a few months ago they were graced with the help of some people who actually know what they're doing, and now they're beginning work on a 3-5 song demo called Potential Potential that will hopefully be available for your listening pleasure late this summer.
We also like food places that stay open late. Specifically after 10 o'clock. Because that's usually when we're hungry, and usually when places like to close on us.
That's it. Come to our shows, listen to our music every waking moment of your life, and bake us cookies! (Or give us other nifty things).
