About Me

I ENDORSE DW DRUMS AND HARDWARE, VIC FIRTH STICKS AND MALLETS, AND REMO DRUMHEADS. In a nut shell: I'm originally from Dallas, Texas. The family lived in Memphis for a brief time, and I had the opportunity of taking a few lessons from Ronnie Tutt (Elvis Presley) while we were there cuz my mom was a staff jingle singer at Pepper Tanner back then and Ronnie played drums on all those sessions. Playing drums along with Beatles records, that was the thing. I don't have a formal music degree, but I've always had this incredible appetite to absorb all kinds of music. I was able to be a percussionist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The SMU Civic Symphony, and the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, back when I had those chops pretty well together. I've had the good fortune of playing drumset with a large variety of artists ranging from Dizzy Gillespie to Jeffrey Steele since then. My folks had some reel to reel tape recorders that I used to love experimenting with as a kid, and that lead to my dabbling in audio engineering in order to realize some musical ideas. I moved to Los Angeles to further my drumming career and was able to work in The Desert Rose Band and Boy Howdy along with being a fairly successful session player. I had the bright idea to open my first "commercial" studio during that time which was of course, in my garage. I called it Shitty Home Studio, or SHS, and it was. Since moving to Nashville in 1996, I've been lucky enough to play with several other country artists including Jeffrey Steele, Aaron Tippin, Mark Chesnutt, and Buddy Jewell, and I continued the recording insanity by designing and building Studio 515 with Rod Lewis in 2002-2003. It serves as a kind of home base from which I continue to record, produce, write, and do some engineering and mixing. Lately I'm looking for great singer/songwriters and some great local indie bands to produce. I've even started taking a few keyboard gigs here and there, cuz I've always just plunked around on the piano. Some of the results of work I've done since moving to Nashville will be cycled on and off of the music player for this page. I really don't think I can stop doing all of this. It's all just an integral part of who I am and I'm loving every second of it. If it ever stops being so much damn fun, that's when I'll quit it.
