Cerebral was founded in February of 2005 by Guitarist Mark Raimondi and former drummer friend as an experimental Neo-classical/Fusion project while attending the Berklee College of Music. In March of 2005, Bassist Matt Speca from Ohio won the audition and the spot in the lineup. From there the three began writing instrumental material when they collectively decided to shift towards more of a mainstream approach through the addition of vocals and writing in more of a hard rock style. In the fall of 2005, the original drummer left the band and was replaced by Mark's younger brother Jason. The two brothers had worked together in the past and the band took on a much heavier and aggressive sound. Dissatisfied with their singer at the time, in December of 2005 the group began auditioning new vocalists. It wasn't until February of 2006 that they found the perfect fit. Vocalist Andy Coyle had left his former band and was on the hunt for a new project when urged by friend Matt Speca to come in for an audition. The group immediately clicked and began writing stronger material. On Easter Sunday and Monday of April 2006 the band spent two days straight recording their Self-titled 5 song EP at Mad Oak Recording Studios with Engineer John Lami (soundman for the Blue Man Group in Europe), from there they moved the project to Ice Station Zebra to mix with Boston Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Producer and Engineer Ducky Carlisle who has worked with such major recording artists as Norah Jones, Susan Tedeschi, Joe Stump, The Neighborhoods, Bleu, and The Black Crows to name a few. Cerebral’s sound is comprised of shredding guitar licks, powerful vocals, growling bass lines, and blasting drums. Cerebral explores the styles of hard rock/Heavy metal, Neo-classical metal, and Grunge. Some of the bands highlights since the release of their EP. have included being the official band of the WAAF 107.3 and 97.7 Beach Dig. Cerebral has also opened for major acts such as Alice in Chains, Buckcherry, Powerman 5000, Jada Pinkett Smith’s Wicked Wisdom, Ra, Social Burn, The Neighborhoods, and Burn in Silence, as well as playing multiple New England and New York Hard Rock and Metal festivals.
