About Me

-----Perry Gentile started playing the alto Saxophone at age 10 in Waterbury, Connecticut. Within a few years, he was able to play songs by David Sanborn, Glover Washington, Tower of Power, and The Brecker Bros. By age 13 he was playing in a local R&B band. Being under age, his parents had to talk to the owners of the night clubs in order for this young talent to be able to play live. In high school he started playing flutes and piano. By age 16 he was a regular patron at "7th Ave South", one of New York City’s premiere Jazz night clubs. It was here that Perry met Michael & Randy Brecker, who were a major source of inspiration for him.Shortly after high school, Perry moved to N.Y. City, where he continued his musical studies with Harvey Estrin and Carmin Caruso by day. By night he worked at 7th Ave South, which exposed him to many of the greatest musicians in the world. In 1985 he moved to California, working for a Capital Presentations promoting and performing with 50’s acts like the Shirells, Bobby Louis,The Coasters and Mary Wells. After 4 years of traveling, Perry settled in Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, time, he met and became friends with renown composers David Newman, Marty Frazu and Gil Melle... In 1999 he and Gil Melle.. worked together on a 10 song CD called "Equatorial Man", fusing some of Gil’s TV & film music to world beats, flutes, guitars, and vocals. One of the songs, "The Gears", is featured in Gil’s art show called "The Millennium Box", available on DVD.
