The Elisabeth Project
The Elisabeth Project
This project all started with three sisters. All had been sexually abused by their grandfather, and neither girl knew it was happening to the other. Neither of them would ever come forward out of fear and shame.
Anna, Cana and Joannah Dunlap. 3 sisters. 1 secret. After about 5 years of continuous sexual abuse the girl's mother noticed something disturbing about the way the grandfather hugged one of the girls. She sat the younger girls down and it all finally came out. The older one was contacted at college about the younger girls’ abuse and also came forward and told about her abuse.
This is our story. We know about this first hand. We’ve felt the awful loneliness like there’s no one else out there that can relate to what you're going through or understand how you feel. And we’re ready to start the fight! The fight against sexual abuse and the fight against keeping quiet.
Our mission is to raise awareness about what’s going on and fight to stop it. To help change teens find their voice and stand up and talk if it has happened or is happening to them.
All proceeds will go to the not-for profit organization F.L.A.M.E. (Family Life Association for Ministry and Education) This organization makes funds available to educate the public about the devastating effects of sexual abuse, and to help individuals who are in need of counseling services.
According to the most current statistics: [DVSAC Domestic Violence and Sexual Coalition]
1 out of 4 women in the United States are sexually abused – and more than half are under 18 years old.
It is estimated that less than 10% of rape cases are reported to police. (National Victim Center and the Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center)
4 out of 5 students experience sexual harassment that interferes with their school performance and with their personal lives. (Sexual Harassment in America's Schools. Washington, DC: A.A.U.W. Educational Foundation)
These numbers need to change. This is our my mission.
In 2004 Jeremiah Dunlap wrote a song named “Elisabeth†that led to the inspiration for this project. Jeremiah is the lead singer in The Sophomore Attempt and is also our brother. He saw what we had gone through in the aftermath of the abuse and translated that painful experience it into a beautiful song that has touched countless lives.
20% of the proceeds is going to go recording a Benefit CD that we hope to have out by Early Next year. “Elisabeth†will be featured on the CD, along with other known artists. If you would like to be involved in the CD please let us know. Now is the time. The time to stand up and find your voice. It's time to stop the hurting and it's time to change lives. If all that comes out of this project is one changed life, it would have been worth it all!
