About Me

..
About me
I was born and grew up in Athens, Greece. I studied jazz music at the Philippos Nakas and the Athenaeum Conservatories in Athens. At the same time I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. I currently live in Zurich, Switzerland, where I work as a software developer.
While as a listener I enjoy many styles of jazz and classical music, I have a particular affection for traditional jazz ( swing / bebop / post-bop ), so that's what I'm focusing on as a musician.
About the music
Since I'm not currently in a band, I made these recordings at home using a computer-generated accompaniment. This means that everything you hear is MIDI, except the guitars.
Written in 1932, Night and Day is arguably Cole Porter 's finest composition, and one of the greatest jazz standards ever written.
Moose the Mooche is one of my favorite Charlie Parker tunes. It is based on the "rhythm changes" (a harmonic pattern that's very common in traditional jazz) and is a representative example of Parker's compositional style. Most ideas I play in my solo are not really mine: they come from transcriptions I've done from Charlie Parker and Hampton Hawes . So this solo is kind of my tribute to these giants.
I Can't Get Started is another great jazz standard, written in 1936 by Vernon Duke with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. Here I play a solo guitar arrangement by Barry Galbraith.
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! is a popular song commonly associated with Christmas, although the song never actually mentions Christmas. I decided to record this after listening to Dianne Reeves' version from her album "Christmas Time Is Here".
