Fractured Innocence

They build you up. Fill your head with stories of fortune. Tell you it can all be yours. All you have to do is work hard. Work hard like they did. But look where they are. No fame. No fortune. You don't even notice. Distracted by their empty words of motivation. Driven by a hollow promise of success, delivered with the best intentions. Never meant to misguide you. It's not the talent you are lacking. And it's not that you have no desire. But you are missing the one thing they didn't say that you would need. For all you have means nothing. Unless accompanied by luck. By the time you find this out it is much too late. Deceived by your own dreams. It is at this moment that you're perspective changes. You wonder how you could be so naive. With skin a little thicker, you work towards what's next. But you will carry your fractured innocence with you. And this, this is what broken dreams are made of.
