Ken Winters, aka KMWR, was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and moved to East Palo Alto, California early in his life. Also known as Little Nairobi for its African and politically conscious movements, this small Bay Area city was a center of culture and activism. Black power, independence and pride were the mantra of the day.Growing up, KMWR was surrounded by powerful music with inspirational and uplifting lyrics. His childhood home echoed with the soulful sounds of such artists as the Del Phonics, New Birth, Sly and the Family Stone, and many more. The music and the message of these artists continue to inspire KMWR to this day.Considered by many a street dance legend, KMWR is the creator of some of the street popping moves that dancers are still using to this day. Going by the names Dr. Oatmeal, Da wizard ,and General No Bones, KMWR has long been known for his creative stage productions.Through doors open to him as a dancer, KMWR pursued his love of music and seized opportunities to meet and commune with top bands and artists of the period.
It is here where he began to develop his passion for music into a profession.Working under the guidance of the funk and R&B group Percision, one of the hottest bands in the nation at the time, and the mentorship of his cousin Frank Thibeaux, aka Tebo, KMWR was able to get up close to all the real action of performing, playing and creating.Soon KMWR purchased his first keyboard, a $99 Casio® that became his first
true love. 24-7, he studied until he could play anything he could imagine or hear in his head. As his skills grew so did the demand for his original beats and songs. Once again KMWR created a name for himself on the music scene, this time as a performer, songwriter and producer.Wanting to continue to rise in his field, KMWR took time away from creating and went back to school, for music of course. Attending the well-known Recording Institute of Detroit under the instruction of Robert Dennis, one of Motown’s legendary engineers, KMWR learned everything from copyright & contract law to Pro Tools® , WaveLab®, live recording, and mastering, and earned certifications as an Audio Engineer and Music Producer.KMWR now returns back on the scene with his own label of creative and distinctive sounds, pursuing his goals of songwriting and producing on the highest scale.KMKOSMIK ENTERTAINMENT™ ..
