Out of Pockets represents all things funk; Afrobeat, Breaks, Hip-Hop, Soul, Dub...if it grooves, we play it. This is a band always in pursuit of adding excitement to the dance floor or laying down a groove you can kick back and chill to.
Started in early 2008, Out of Pockets quickly established itself with monthly appearances at Bembe and Rose Live Music in Brooklyn, NY. Shortly after these initial gigs, Out of Pockets headed into the studio to record their debut self-titled EP, featuring the crowd favorite "Sir Frobe".
After a few early lineup changes, Out of Pockets started to really dig in later in '08 continuing their regular Brooklyn appearances, and playing select charity events like Fortification at Castle Clinton, and a fundraiser for WHCAP on Pier 66 in Manhattan.
After finishing off '08 back in the studio to record their first full-length with 2 tracks featuring China Edelman on vocals, Out of Pockets is ready to tear it up in 2009!
"By using layered harmonies, strong melodies, syncopated rhythms, and a SOLID horns section, Out Of Pockets has created a dense texture that truely represents all things funk." -- MicControlBlog.com
