About Me

There’s a renaissance going on in Chicago. The industry is starting to pay attention to artists in the city more and more each day. The light is shining on rising stars as they begin their ascension to stardom. Lurking in the shadows, waiting on that light to finally cast down on him, is Gutta. He is the unheralded champion of the people. He does not claim to be an angel or Scarface, he’s just himself. By being himself he hopes to introduce the industry to what it knowingly lacks- Truth & Substance.

Born Bert Kenerson, on the South Side of Chicago, August 28th,1980,Gutta is not unfamiliar to struggle. Having lived in the “Ickes”, a housing project on the South Side of Chicago, as well as the Wild 100s, Gutta has seen his share of hard times. Instead of letting those hard times cripple him, he chose to let them inspire his desire for more. After giving up his dream of Basketball, a chance meeting of a Chicago MC named Lucky sparked the Beginning of his rap career. He joined Da Brave; a group of MC’s who shared the same dream of representing their city with quality music. Unbeknownst to him, it would take a few years for him to begin taking music as serious as he did Basketball. Thru his cousin he met a MC named Chekk, and Chekk would be the one that encouraged him to take his talent to the next level.

Gutta did more than take his talent to the next level. Drawing off his influences: Krs One-Rakim-Nas-Jada and his 1 year old son Jaylen; Gutta was ready to achieve the impossible dream of becoming not a star, but a legend. Never settling for less, Gutta began to work on songs and what he has come to be known for, battling. Gutta has entered & won countless Organized Battles, as well as, impromptu freestyle battles at his local barbershop, Larry’s. Most notably, he was the winner of the Power 92 Miller Genuine Draft MC Battle. He has performed at such venues as the House of Blues, Metro, Local 705, Hot House, Sub T, Cotton Club, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, and South Suburban Colleges He has opened for such acts as Nas, Jada, Cee Lo, Fabolous, Camron, I-20, and Ruben Studdard. But no performance was as important as the one he gave at the WGCI Music Seminar. After receiving a standing ovation, Gutta was approached by Ruben Studdard’s brother Kevin. It was this chance meeting that would soon give Gutta the chance at his dream of becoming a staple in the music business. Gutta has since signed with Ruben’s label, Real Music, and is currently working on his debut album "GUTTA: The Man, The Myth, The Legend".

If you have been in Chicago for the last two years, you would probably have heard Gutta’s self titled EP. This EP gave birth to the smash hits “SouthSide” and “Let Me Show you The Way”. Gutta is currently working with on his next mixtape Crime of the Century. This will certainly show the growth in his songwriting ability and lyrical content. Songs such as “Available” and “Hot” are certain to make his name a staple on Chicago radio stations. As far as the mixtape joints he will sprinkle throughout the project, Gutta has never met a beat he couldn’t make his own. Backed by his label Blok Club Music Group & his crew Wind Chillz, Gutta is poised to make over the game. Once he has given the industry the facelift it needs, hip hop should once again be able to look at itself in the mirror. And this time, the honor and respect that has been missing, should be visible to both the artist and listener. You can start thanking Gutta for his contribution now, he’s all ears.
