About Me

How's it goin'?.. And welcome to my humble myspace page... I'm Rockstar Johnson, but you can just call me RJ....
I'm a tall, bald, singer/songwriter/guitarist/guitar teacher/amateur percussionist/aspiring professional bikini inspector (little "kids in the hall" reference for the canadians out there..ha) from Oakville, Ontario, Canada... I've had a guitar in my hands since I was about 4 or 5, but only got serious about it when I turned 16... I literally haven't been able to put it down since... I'm just as mental when it comes to singing... I eat, breathe and sleep music...
So, I've got myself in 3 bands and I teach guitar privately to try to make my way through this crazy life... I have a hard rock/alternative/classic rock band in Hamilton called Breaking Levee, and a Blues/Reggae/Funk duo in Toronto called Peace of Diversity, but there's still alot of songs I love to play that wouldn't work with either band, so that's why I'm starting a solo act too... well, there's that, and I need the money.. ha.. but don't jump to conclusions about me just yet... I play music because I "love" to play music.. getting paid to play is just an extra added bonus...
I think I'm as diverse a fan of music as you'll ever find, and that's definitely represented in my setlist... I like to play a bit of everything, but I focus mainly on Alternative 90's and Classic Rock... I also have a bunch of Blues and Reggae tunes under my belt in case the crowd's feelin' funky...
Right now, I'm recording background music to most of the tunes on my list so I can play along, and have that full-band sound even though it's just me up there... Using congas and bongos instead of normal drums, the songs have a more laid-back, "Island" feel to them (I realize we're nowhere close to any tropical islands, but really, who wouldn't want to be on one right now?)... I also try to play as many songs as I can in my own style, which usually ends up sounding like a bluesy-reggae mix...
So, I can fit in almost any pub, bar, or club situation, and by summer 08, I should be ready to get out there...
thanks for reading/listening... there'll be more songs on the way soon... hope you like 'em...

Sounds Like: Vocally, everyone whose songs I cover..ha... can't help myself when it comes to impersonating all these amazing singers.. but I do have my own voice, and once in awhile, it creeps out and sounds a bit like a bluesy mix of Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Eddie Vedder, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley... Oh man, no pressure trying to live up to that eh!? ha...

On the guitar, I get my style from a mix of Hendrix, Slash, Santana, and Jimmy Page... My playing's very fluid, bouncy, and groovin'... I try to squeeze in as many "in-between" notes as I can while still saying something meaningful... playing fast just for the sake of being fast sounds ridiculous, so I like to play fast but still try to tell a story with the notes I choose....
Record Label: bidding war currently underway...ha...
