About Me
Philly is an artist/CEO on the rise, currently worked with big labels such as
Blackwall Street/Livelihood Ent and more.
The story of Josh White begins in North Philadelphia...
At the age of six, his interest of music really began to grow. On the rough streets of North Philadelphia, where the violence is intolerable, and the drugs are spread throughout the city, one thing kept this destined artist out of trouble; Music.
At the age of nine, he began to listen to a lot of different artists such as; Big Pun, Biggie, 2Pac, KRS One, NWA, Run DMC, Eminem, Freak Nasty, Carlos Santana, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and many other great artists and underground artists.
This is what helped him decide to get into the game. "Coming From Philly, You Can Be Here One Day and Be Dead The Next, Once You Here and You Known Your Stuck, Nigga's Gonna Send Death Threats and Gonna Try To Kill You and Everything You Love. I Mean You Aint Ever See a Nigga From Philly Get Big and Stay Big, Without Catchin a Case or Endin Up Dead. Im Tryin To Get a Deal and Get Outta This Bullshit Dont Get Me Wrong Its Philly To The Day I Die, But a Nigga Get Got Everyday Out Here"
At the age of eleven, he recorded his first song, with his good friend Ricky, who was also writing music since the age of nine or ten. "A lot of people are fans of this rap game, like oh I see a nigga got big, and he forget where he came from. Me; I love hip-hop/rap. I ain't no fan of it though. I'm real. This is what I do to bring in cake. If I get a big deal, you would still see me in those streets, I got mad friends down there. F*** it, you can't even call 'em friends. We close as hell, they fam."
At the age of fourteen, a lot of people noticed that he could write from rap to poetry. He began ghostwriting for many big underground artists in 2002 and moved out of North Philly. "See, when I moved outta north, I thought things were going to get better, Sh** only got worse."
When he moved up to the north east, there were six suicides on his block, which made it hard to adapt to his new neighborhood causing many sad situations. "When you see a kid go and almost kill himself in the middle of the street, cuz his poor mom's dying of cancer, that's some sad sh**."
At the age of Fourteen still, Philly's parents got into a car accident and became real sick. "That was one of the worst days of my life. My fam was always there for me, and they mean the world to me." Philly and his family then moved in with his grandparents. "My grandmother, she was like a mother to me, she's probably the reason I started rapping, and she always told me; 'Follow your dreams and you will get there.' (Laughter) I remember she would sit there all day and listen to me rap, sh** was crazy…"
Philly's parents recovered a couple months later, and life started working itself out again. Philly moved out of his grandparents' house, and moved on. "I met my boys JT, 3, Hannibal, Angel, John, and G. Those my boys for real till defff, real talk they had my back so you know I got theirs."
Life started looking up for Philly, at the end of his fifteenth year. Until, yet another unexpected tragedy, when his grandmother passed away. "When I heard she died, I was coming home from school. It was double bad, cuz the day it happened; there was a fire in my school. My boy Adrian and I left and the cops were all over us that day Cus Niggas Wasnt Suppose To Leave The School n Shit. So when I found out what happened, it was the worst day of my life. My homies, B-Rose, Angel, and J-Philly really helped me get through it. I still think about what would happen if she was still here. Sh**... I don't even talk to my grandfather no more. Once she died, he moved in with another woman, and took all my grandmother's money. Sh** he doesn't even call his own son no more."
All this pain helps Philly keep moving on and on. Whether writing, recording, or doing whatever it takes. Philly finds ways to dig deep into his soul, and bring out that inner strength that tells him to go on and follow his dreams.
