My name's Adam. I love red, red wine and writing stories about the adventures of mountain goats...The Attack of the Ogog-Ogoh...Like an army of monsters straight out of Pans Labyrinth the ugly statues come hurtling down the street one by one. Wild and seemingly out of control the rock around, tall and fearsome in the night sky. I stand in awe until one comes careering towards me and drives into my chest, sending me crashing backwards into a dense crowd and crazy frenchman who's been taking pictures and shouting in a maniacal fashion.
There's a carnival atmosphere in the air as the Balinese celebrate their religious new years eve by getting the children to build these evil spirit releasing Ogog-Ogoh's and parade them through music-filled town. This is their way of exorcising their demons and wiping the slate clean for a new year.
Finally the last of this crazy army passes and leaves the street in exactly what will be celebrated for an entire new years day, silence.March 6th 2008.
