Best described as Old School music with a message. The Alan Kovin Band plays original music often described as a cross between Steely Dan, Randy Newman, Eagles, Paul Simon, with an often Latin twist. Alan’s lyrics touch upon many aspects of our life, with story qualities, not unlike Paul Simon and Leonard Cohen, but often with the biting political and social commentaries of Springstein, Dylan, Waits and Newman. Using liberal doses of string orchestration, Pop Pianos, background vocals, his cool Hammond B3, occasional solo woodwinds and acoustic guitars, Kovin melds styles of Pop, Acoustic, Jazz and Old School Rock/Blues, with even some Gospel for good measure—but sounds like no-one today
