HISTORY:The MKMS was helped underway by the well-known and respected conductor Hilliary Davon-Wetton. For these 40 years it has been at the center of the musical lives of thousands of children of ALL backgrounds and abilities in the Milton Keynes area. Orchestras such as the string and symphony orchestras have played in collaboration with the professional city orchestra and have played at the Albert Hall. There are also many valuable small ensembles and quartets etc that cover music from the modern era to as far back as the renaissance.BANDSThere is also the rock school, which has helped establish many well known bands in the MK region, e.g. Fell Silent, Desperate Cycle, and six point five. The music center as a whole (both rock school and orchestral) also helped establish musicians from: Hello Hallelujah, Titan System, and Modus Vivendi.HELPThe music centre has, all this time, been able to help children from less privileged backgrounds with costs for their instrument tuition and the vital experience of playing in groups, and has also provided a place for young people to meet and do something productive. ALL THIS MAY VERY SOON CHANGE!! The council are intending on withdrawing over £250 000 in the next two years! This will mean fees will have to rise, scholarships and support will fall and eventually stop if no action is taken. It will also make music return to the elitist system of the rich benefiting and the poor not getting a chance.what makes this worse is that councils across the country say that they are putting money into keeping young people off the streets causing trouble, but here we see them blindly taking money away from something that does just that. If anything it should be pumping more money into Music and creative arts to encourage more young people to do it.please help raise awareness of the MKMS and if you have any suggestions on how to help fight the decision, please dont hesitate to get in touch.THANK YOU
