Active Member were created in June 1992 by Î’.D.Foxmoor. Nowadays, the group is composed of B.D.Foxmoor and Sadahzinia (when playing live they also perform with sessions with acoustic instruments).
In 1993 Active Member founded Freestyle Productions and released an independent LP, "Diamartiria" [=Protest], which was the first hip hop record in Greece. One more independent album followed in 1994, and then Active Member signed with WEA, in 1995. WEA released their third album, "To Megalo Kolpo" [="The Big Game"], which made them widely known. In that album, Active Member decided to transcend the "limits" of hip-hop and rename their music. They called it Low Bap meaning "support one's words with one's doings and vice versa."
In March '04, WEA released "Fiera" their 10th album.
Active Member are involved in many different activities. They have established an annual Low Bap Festival that goes on for 5 days including live performances, Dj contests, workshops and discussions. Seven (7) Low Bap Festivals have already taken place. Moreover, they often organise in Athens European hip hop festivals (with participants from all over Europe).
The crew is hosting a very successful Hip Hop radio show twice a week on a major Greek radio station that is also broadcasted via Internet and satellite.
B.D.Foxmoor, frontman and producer of Active Member has done the soundtrack for three films, and has produced, written and featured in more than 600 tracks. Sadahzinia is the leading female force of hip hop in Greece. She has played keyboards and percussions in shows and in the studio, but nowadays she is focused on her rap and lyrics. She has also released four personal albums (three from WEA and one from her label.)
The members of the crew have a healthy diregard for the "rules" about what a rapper ought or ought not to do. Thus, they are involved in book publishing. B.D.Foxmoor has released a book including his lyrics plus photographs which has run four editions. Sadahzinia, on the other hand writes children's books. In summer 2003, a crowd of +3000 watched her theatrical play, "The Magician of Fire", accompanied by a live symphonical orchestra and a Dj.
Active Member have built their own professional recording studio, founded a cultural society, a bookshop and a hip hop/lowbap exhibition - all in the same area. They 've participated in the making of several hip hop fanzines and in April 2003 Active Member set up an independent label, "8ctagon", which will provide a vehicle for record releases, tours, movies and the like.
Since 1993 the production team of Active Member and Freestyle Productions have participated in more than 60 albums /singles in cooperation with other artists in Greece and abroad (U.K, Italy, France, Trinitad, U.S.A, Germany).
They have had hundreds of live performances in Greece, as well as in Europe, always evoking sociopolitical awareness and building a powerful and emotional atmosphere.[LOVEMYFLASH]
