Will Engel

About Me

If Tom Waits and Tori Amos collaborated to form a new sound, the result might end up being something like the music of singer/songwriter Will Engel. Drawing from his experiences and the vibrations around him, he creates an abstract picture of the world that provokes and challenges you, even as you dive deeper, lured by the accessible hooks. While his largely improvisational piano and vocal style evokes jazz, the song structure and rhythm elusively darts from blues to folk to 60’s psychedelia and back again.
Will’s recently released debut album "This Could Be Heaven" is a unique concept album. He began composing and recording in Boston over 5 years ago and completed this diverse collection of songs in California. Throughout much of the album, Will uses a distinct lyrical and rhythmic style, creating songs that feel perfectly out of place. His intimate vocals fuel the conceptual stories of memorable folk ballads such as the album’s centerpiece, “Secrets.” As the album climaxes with the uplifting “Carpenter Someday,” Will’s jazzy delivery intensifies the spiritual, political and artistic meaning.
Since recently releasing, "This Could Be Heaven," Will has become even more prolific, composing and recording new instrumental tracks for the web with Lauren, performing live at various gigs, and generally causing considerable mayhem!
Featured in the Santa Barbara Independent , Fuse and on numerous radio stations, Will continues to receive recognition for experimenting with familiar song structures, pushing them until they’re barely recognizable and then turning you on to something all together different.
"This Could Be Heaven" is AVAILABLE NOW on itunes , cdbaby.com (where it's already sold out twice!), Emusic and Amazon.com to name just a few sites. "This Could Be Heaven" is also AVAILABLE NOW IN STORES at Amoeba Music Hollywood and Borders (Goleta and Santa Barbara) ! MyGen Profile Generator
