Housing & Services, Inc. (HSI) is celebrating twenty years of housing development and management programs for lower income households and New Yorkers with special needs. Founded in 1987, HSI is responsible for developing and preserving more than 3,000 units of housing, including groundbreaking work converting Mitchell Lama rental projects into affordable cooperatives.
HSI also consults for other non-profits to develop supportive housing programs by assembling financing packages, creating links with government agencies, and crafting viable budgets and timelines.
HSI's programs include The Kenmore, The Narragansett and The Cecil, all in Manhattan, and Scatter-Site in the Bronx. Each program provides services that are customized to aid frail individuals who live with a range of HIV/AIDS, mental illness, physical disabilities and addiction. On-site programs include medical, educational/vocational, and other social services.
HSI is led by Executive Director Larry Oaks. Michael T. Cohen, Chairman of the Board, is also Chairman of GVA Williams, a leading New York City commercial real estate firm.
