TOM:Portrayed by M. C. Gainey in nineteen episodes, Tom acts as a liaison to the crash survivors until they kidnap Jack, Kate and Sawyer. He is killed by Sawyer in the third season finale.
ALEX:Alex aids the crash survivors in various escapes and eventually defects at the same time as Juliet and Karl. Throughout the third series, Alex and Karl are in a relationship, but Ben keeps them apart because she would die if she became pregnant.
ETHAN ROM:Played by William Mapother in ten episodes, Dr. Ethan Rom lives among the fuselage survivors of Flight 815 during their initial days on the island. Before he is exposed as an Other, Ethan kidnaps Claire for her unborn child. If you re-arrange the letters in "Ethan Rom", you will have "Other Man".
JACOB:Jacob is the mysterious leader of the Others. With the exception of Ben, the Others have never met or not seen Jacob in years. Jacob lives in a shack without electricity. When Ben takes Locke to meet him on day 91, Locke cannot see Jacob – although he is staring at him – but he can hear Jacob say, "Help me..." In his split-second of camera-time, Jacob appears to be an expressionless middle-aged white male with long hair, the makings of a beard, and bland clothing much like the "Others" wear outside of the confines of their barracks. There are also a couple of frames showing a close up of someone's eye. Jacob appears briefly in The Man Behind the Curtain.
RICHARD ALPERD:Named after spiritual philosopher Ram Dass, Dr. Richard Alpert, played by Nestor Carbonell, is an influential Other who does not age. In the early 1970s, Richard – one of the original "Hostiles" (Others) – conspires with a young Ben to gas the Barracks and kill the Dharma Initiative, with the Others moving in.[14] Richard works as a recruiter for a front company for the Others, called Mittelos Bioscience. In September 2001, he recruits Juliet with the help of Ethan Rom.[15] Richard prefers not to take a position of power, but disputes several decisions by Ben. Carbonell has speculated that Richard is 400 years old and indigenous to the island.[16]
MICHAIL BAKUNIN:Named after the anarchist of the same name, Mikhail is a one-eyed member of the Others who lived in a Dharma Initiative station. Because he wears an eye-patch, he was referred to as "Patchy" by the crew before his name was revealed.[17] Mikhail was born in Kiev in present day Ukraine, which was part of the USSR at the time of his birth.[18] He worked as a medic in the Soviet Army and served in the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Later he carried military service on a listening station near Vladivostok. However, his military unit is decommissioned. He later replies to a newspaper advertisement and was recruited by Jacob, which eventually landed him on the island. He lives in the Flame, a communications station with a satellite transceiver, televisions and computers. After Flight 815 crashes, Mikhail compiles detailed files on each of the survivors. Sayid, Locke, Kate and Rousseau find him on day 77. They take him prisoner and he is apparently killed by the sonic fences that protect the Others' homes in the Barracks. However, an alive Mikhail reappears on day 87 to Desmond, Hurley, Charlie and Jin. He saves Naomi's life in exchange for being let free to return to the Others. On day 91, Mikhail finds the Others and is beaten up by Locke. Mikhail claims that the sonic fence was not set to a lethal level. Mikhail is sent by Ben, who calls Mikhail a "loyalist," to reinforce Greta and Bonnie at the Looking Glass station on day 92, who have encountered Charlie and Desmond. At Ben's request, Mikhail questions and kills Greta and Bonnie on day 93. Desmond appears and shoots Mikhail in the chest with a spear gun. Later, Mikhail explodes a hand grenade, which kills both himself and Charlie.[19] Andrew Divoff acts as Mikhail. Mikhail is set to return through flashbacks in a future episode.[20]
DANNY PICKETT:Pickett is a forceful and the most violent member of the Others who supervised the construction of an airstrip on the island where the Hydra station is located. He was married to another Other named Colleen until her death.[21] He monitors Kate and Sawyer when they are ordered to smash rocks on days 69, 70 and 72. His wife Colleen takes part in a raid upon Desmond's boat the Elizabeth on day 69, and is killed by Sun in the process. Enraged, Pickett takes all of his anger out on Sawyer, repeatedly beating him and threatening to kill him for days. He almost succeeds, however he is ordered to release Kate and Sawyer or else Ben will die at the hands of Jack. Pickett pursues Kate and Sawyer with Luke and Jason, but he is shot dead by Juliet. Juliet faces trial for the murder but escaped execution and was only branded as punishment. Michael Bowen appears as Pickett. Pickett may return through flashbacks in a future episode.[22]
KARL:A young Other, Karl is Alex's boyfriend. Worried that Karl would get Alex pregnant (which, due to the mysterious nature of the Island, would kill her), Ben cages Karl on day 68 and, after he escapes and is recaptured, is forced to watch a brainwashing film repeatedly. Alex, Sawyer and Kate rescue him on day 73, and he goes with Kate and Sawyer by canoe back to the main island. Sawyer lets him go free once they return. He lives in the forest until Alex tells him to go warn the crash survivors of the Others' upcoming raid on their camp on day 92. He reunites with Alex on day 93 and they join the survivors' group. Blake Bashoff plays Karl.
GOODWIN:Goodwin was married to the island's therapist, Harper. When Juliet Burke arrived to the island, he began an affair with her much to the dismay of Harper and Ben who is in love with Juliet. In rebellion, Ben sends Goodwin on a mission to pretend he is one of the tail-section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. When he is found out by Ana Lucia Cortez, she kills him which was Ben's intention all along. Goodwin is played by Brett Cullen.
