If someone asked me(the author) for a brief description of the book, I'd say:
This is a fictional story which tells the tale of a mother and her growing relationship with a son she initially has problems connecting with. The novel tells the story of their years together as they survive loss and learn to trust the Lord while developing a friendship that is hard to find in today’s world. The story is being told in 2008 by the mother (Stephanie). She takes her friend and you (the reader) through 22 years of her and her son's life, searching for what happened to her son. She has a lifetime of memories that says "My son and I were the best of friends", yet it appears to not be the case. Be prepared for a major twist at the end of the story - which is why all these descriptions you read will be brief.
Here is the description from the back of the book (which begins with a portion of dialogue from the book):
"There’s nothing wrong with not knowing who your best friend is. You’ve always been very selective in the people you get close to, so where others may have a dozen friends, you’ve always had only three or four at a time. But those three or four always got the best you had to offer,” his mom said.
“That’s not why she was making fun of me. I did know who my best friend was. It’s always been you,” he said.

Has Stephanie lost touch with reality?

Why can’t she figure out what happened between her and Jonathan?
This is the story of the strong bond that builds between a mother and her son. It’s the story of love and friendship that grows deeper with each passing year. They share a closeness and a bond that can survive anything, or so they thought…
Perhaps telling her story to an old friend could help uncover the clues necessary to answer her nagging question – What happened to her best friend?
It will keep you guessing up until the final page!

This is a story of a broken Christian novelist who has lost his faith. He finds himself snowbound in a diner that happens to be from one of his novels. A character of his creation seems to be upset with him.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Excerpt from Page 168 of Mommy's Choice

On the floor beside the Christmas tree, Jonathan and his mom sat in their pajamas sharing the stale remnants of the cookie jar. The game of Donkey Kong remained paused on the floor beside him as he searched for another Chips Ahoy. His mom had the last two Oreos in her hand as she gazed over into the tree.
“I don’t want you dating anymore, Mom,” he said, as he heard her chuckle, “Seriously.”
“And who are you to tell me what to do? How about, I don’t want you dating anymore. I’m the parent here,” she said.
“I don’t date. My so-called girlfriend is in another country. And I’m in charge of looking after you now, so I have a right to tell you that I don’t want you dating anymore,” he said, wiping the crumbs from his shirt.
“In charge of looking after me?”
“Yeah. In the Bible time, the oldest son was responsible for the mother if the father died. That’s why Jesus entrusted his mom to John when he was on the cross. Joseph was dead and it was already Jesus’ job as the oldest son to look after his mom. And I’ll bet that the son even had the authority to keep his mom safe. It’s my job now.”
She pushed him with her shoulder, realizing how he didn’t fall over as easily as he used to. She took the jar and tilted it to look inside.
“I think we’re down to vanilla wafers and generics,” she said, giving up her search, “Like I said, I’m the parent and though I may listen to your opinions, I’m still the one in charge. What do you mean, by the way, when you said your ‘so-called girlfriend’?”
“I just don’t think it’s working. I need something tangible. She’s a good friend to write to, but it can never become something more,” he said, gazing into the golden ornament by his face, “I’m the type of guy that needs someone to hold. I can’t sit here and dwell on that great kiss a couple years ago.”
His mother simply nodded and brushed some crumbs from her flannel shorts.
“Did you find someone else?” she asked.
“Possibly. She knows I’m dating someone in South America, but I admitted that it’s not going anywhere,” he said, “She’s a good person.”
“Are you going to tell Haley?” she asked.
“Yeah. We’ve already talked a little about it anyway. It came up one day when she told me that if you want a happy life, just marry your best friend. Then she asked me who my best friend was. I thought about her, but I couldn’t say she was my best friend. I mean, how close can you get to someone through the post office and email? Then I thought of Carlos – and no, I’m not thinking of marrying him. I was trying to figure out who my best friend was. We hang out and I love him like a brother, but he’s not my best friend. By the end of our conversation, she was making fun of me for being so sheltered in my life. She said that I needed to get out more.”
“There’s nothing wrong with not knowing who your best friend is. You’ve always been very selective in the people you get close to, so where others may have a dozen friends, you’ve always had only three or four at a time. But those three or four always got the best you had to offer,” she said.
“That’s not why she was making fun of me. I did know who my best friend was. It’s always been you,” he said.

My other novel "Life Could be a Dream" is available now. This is a Christian-based romance that begins in 2008 and ends in 1958. Here is what it says on the back of the book:

At the sight of his abusive father lying wounded in the driveway; 16 year-old Sean finds himself at his mother’s side being urged to flee. He doesn’t recall what happened, but he reluctantly obeys. Later at a friend’s house, Sean is presented with a place to hide out where no one could ever come searching for him - a safe-house within his own neighborhood, yet fifty years in the past.
1958 welcomes Sean with its trusting neighbors, rock and roll records, chromed cars with flashy fins, and even a spot on the high school football team. Best of all, 1958 welcomes him with a beautiful girl named Clara. Sean is captured by all that his heart could ever desire in this life. As far as he’s concerned, nothing could ever make him return to the life he abandoned… unfortunately, a decision like that may not be his alone to make.

The following is the summary from the back of my newest novel due out July 2009 titled "Running Outta Time"

After introducing time travel into the world of Inspirational Fiction with his novel Life Could be a Dream, award winning author Scott Curtis returns with three more stories of adventure, suspense, and yes, even another exciting tale of time travel!
Running Outta Time brings you the stories of three separate people who indeed are running out of time. In the first story “One Crazy Summer”, three teens have just discovered proof that there may be a bag of one million dollars hidden somewhere inside the store where they work. With only a journal and some old newspaper clippings documenting a past bank robbery, they set out to find this money before someone gets hurt or killed. In “Brooksie”, Eddie discovers a door in his basement that leads directly to a 1928 amusement park. It’s the stuff dreams are made of, but dreams can also turn out to be nightmares if you don’t follow the rules. In “Daylight in Blossom”, Autumn Rees is haunted by whispering voices and creeping shadows that try to attack her at night. The only one who can save her is a superhero she has known all her life – the one who was there to rescue her seven years ago. Unfortunately, he doesn’t hear those voices or see the shadows… yet.
