Jonathan Martinez, born November 2nd 1990, also known in the local mixtape scene of Mt.Kisco, New York as "Jon Jonz". Listening to rap at the early age of 8, and writing raps after school with his boys, not even taking them serious, molded him into who he is today. Jon discovered his talent at the age of 13. Recording tracks everyday after school on his computer, gave him the experience on the mic. He put his music out via Who's Next, an underground rap artist website run by Hot 97. He recieved additional support, and love from his older brother, and his cousins and friends. But Jon Jonz, Still a developing artist took feedback from other listeners, and always a suggestion from people, was sound quality. As a developing artist, it's always a necessity to link up with as many dj's as possible. Jon did just that. Teaming up with his friend who he had met in high school, known as Dj Messiah, who was also trying to make a name for himself in the underground hip hop game."I remember Messiah hitting me up once like: you rap, I dj, and we both from the same place, so let's do this." Says Jon Jonz.Messiah then put out his first debut mixtape that wasnt based off of mainstream hip hop, "We Aint' Holly Wood Pt.1" in November 2005."Basically it was my first breath of air in the underground hip hop scene, I had no idea about half of these Kisco rappers, aside from Hood Noise Productions, and Jon Jonz" Says Messiah.Jon had a set of close to 10 trax on "We Aint' Holly Wood Pt.1" giving him his 1st glimpse of what the mixtape game was like. As months went on, Jon Jonz was still busy doing his thing. Using the school to record tracks on a higher quality level than at home on the computer. Jon got in touch with Secret Service Ceo: Truth, who was also from Mt.Kisco. Truth gave Jon guidelines, and tips from experience he had been through as a young rapper. As 2006 came, Messiah's reputation and Jon Jonz popularity had grown bigger than ever. It became clear after a while to people that Kisco did have a handfull of rappers, waiting to be put on.Messiah and Quickdraw teamed up in the early spring of 2006, with hopes to release a mixtape series "Welcome To Kisco", featuring strictly artists who grew up, and have lived in Mt.Kisco."Basically Messiah was making moves, it was obvious for everyone to see all over the place, and it basically at first was a huge rumor that was started throughout school, and when it was brought to the attention of Messiah, he wanted to make it possible" Says Jon Jonz.Recording older trax, and perfecting songs Jon had done way back and never had the time, nor place to record, Jon began recording a collection of tracks at the school tech center. Jon began doing collabs with other Kisco artists, in an effort to show that it was a movement."The mixtape was a big success, I didnt expect it to do as well as it did, but I guess, it paid off that there was a hype for the mixtape before it was even in the works." Says Messiah. As time goes on, Jon Jonz continues to record and add to his collection of recorded tracks, looks for new ways to get exposure, and always keeps giving his 100% every time.
