By the age of 7 she sang in public for the first time, and found out that she wanted to be a singer.
Rosaura Muniz was born in Caruaru, in the State of Pernambuco, Northeast of Brazil. She grew up in Recife on the coast of Pernambuco, where she studied arts. Daughter of a radio actress, and going to a radio station with her mother, soon she learned loving music. Her father was also a great influence; he used to listen to American traditional jazz, and from this comes her love for jazz, and singers such as Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald among others.
She started her career as a "disk jockey" in “Radio Capibaribe do Recifeâ€, where she had a radio program. Then she started singing in a musical group.
Her first single album “Flerteâ€(2001) which means flirt, was an independent work, and she could count on great local musicians participation, such as Luciano Magno (guitar), Marcos Diniz (piano), Nando Barreto (bass) and Misael Barros (drums).
She has also taken part in other albums like, Mulheres Cantadeiras de uma Nação chamada Nordeste (Xico Bizerra)2003, Alma Sanfônica (Xico Bizerra)(2005) , 60 Anos de Forró (Onildo Almeida)(2006) and the CD of the 150th aniversary of her hometown, Caruaru 2007.
Her new album called “Jazz com Jerimum†(jazz with jerimum) jerimum is a way people from Northeast of Brazil has to name “pumpkin†which is called this way only in Northeast of Brasil.
It’s a way to show that our rhythm( from this region) has to do with jazz, and vice verse. Musicians like Breno Lira (guitar), Fred Andrade (guitar), Luciano Magno (guitar), Marcos Diniz (piano) and Jeová da Gaita (harmonica), Nando Barreto (bass) are in this porject. There is a Special participation of group Noise Viola among other great musicians. The new album is brend new.
