Graduated from Bartók Béla Music School in 1991, and consequently received a degree in jazz-piano at Liszt Ferenc Music Academy as Károly Binder's student in 1995.His first recording was with saxophonist Claudia Raths ('Soul for free'/adyton 003). He founded Equinox Jazz Quartet in 1993. The band, which plays tunes composed and arranged by Márkus, has published four CD-s: 'Equinox' in 1995, "Three trees" in 1999, "Are you free" in 2002, and „Eclectic†in 2005.An album of solo piano pieces „My piecesâ€, came out in 2005, the composer’s albums; „ Waves of time†came out in 1999, „ Puppet Theatre†came out in 2007.Tibor Márkus is the author of different choral works, music scores for documentaries and theatre pieces. He teaches jazz-piano, theory and history of jazz at Erkel Ferenc Music School in Budapest. He's an assistant professor at Liszt Ferenc Music Academy's Jazz Department. Along with taking part actively in the Hungarian version of the 'MUSE' program, propagating alternative ways of teaching art and music education, he is one of the organisers and the artistic director of Szombathely's Lamantin Jazz Festival. His courses and workshops on jazz are quite popular at colleges and cultural centres, his musical reviews are being published in several Hungarian magazines.
