"you guys got one hell of a story. ........"
A 4 piece band originally from Gouverneur, NY bringing together a blend of new and classic rock with a touch of country. Members Jeff (drums) and Larry (bass) have been playing together in various configurations for almost 10 years. Together with Derek (guitar) and Kris (vocals) We look forward to entertaining you.
Vanburen Sludge started out in 2004 When Jeff and Derek decided to jam. Jeff gave Larry a call and the core of the Sludge was formed. The core of the band practiced for 3 months learning material and getting tight. Realizing a need for a vocalist they went on a 3 month search (and many try outs) finally getting Dave Bender. Dave and the band began playing the circuit and had a great response in Harrisville and Antwerp.
Dave left the band after a year to pursue school and moved away from the area. Again the core of the band practiced and were looking for a singer. After few tryouts and many prank calls the core got a call from Brehnna Holland.
Brehnna was a classically trained singer and the Sludge again had a vocalist. We started learning new material as well as reworking old material to fit the female perspective. We started booking gigs when Brehnna came to practice with a sad face. She informed the band she had become pregnant and could no longer be our front girl. Again the core of the band practiced and were looking for a singer.
After pursuing another female vocalist who never replied we offered her boy friend a chance to try out. Joe Sweet tried out and was instantly a part of the band. Again the band began playing the circuit and again bad news fell upon us.
Jeff found out that he would need surgery and would not be able to play with the band for a few months. With gigs already booked the Sludge was in dire need of a fill in drummer. That drummer turned out to be Kris, a friend of Joe's. With 3 hours practice Kris joined the sludge for a gig at Mike's Tavern in Antwerp. Some out the night turned out ok and Kris agreed to help the band till Jeff could return.
Tensions arose in the band and Joe decided to part ways with the band. Upon the return of Jeff Kris too left the band. Again the core of the band practiced and were looking for a singer. During the search an offer was made to Kris. He declined due to a busy schedule. After about a month of searching an offer was again made to Kris. He accepted and returned to the band as vocalist.
Kris brought a new leadership to the band pointed us in a more focused direction. We were invited to play a slot at the Harrisville Spring Jam '07 and accepted. Our set was rocking and so was the crowd. We hung out as a band, drank as a band, and rocked it as a band.
The newest addition to the band is sound man Chris Huntly. Chris is the former bass player for Bad Habbit and brings many years of sound experience to the Sludge. Having Chris behind the board gives L.A. a chance to just play bass and not stress about the sound. When we sound good you can thank Chris.
The band had the lucky opportunity to open for April Wine . They proved that though they may be amateurs backstage on stage they can rock like professionals!
