About Me

Sara Marie Rice grew up in Massachusetts, immersed in folk music, mostly the music covered by her father's folk group, Recycled Folk. Her parents also listened to country music and took line-dancing lessons, so despite trying to fight it, she also developed a love for country music. On her first date with her husband, they sat outside of Club Passim on the steps, enjoying beverages from Starbucks, listening to the music and peeking into the windows. Club Passim became a place they would go often, to see Brian Webb, Rachel McCartney, Lori McKenna, Rose Polenzani, Anne Heaton, and many others during the Campfire Festivals and concerts. Come to find out, her parents used to frequent Club Passim when they were dating. And so when she got her first guitar at the age of 23, it was folk music which she first learned to play. Once she had learned some basic chords, she began writing lyrics. Her husband is the inspiration for many of her songs. He is always telling her to write about other topics, but she finds it is a hard habit to break. After having taught special needs students for six years, Sara is teaching first grade. She is very excited and hopes to continue to incorporate music into her teaching, as she has a piano in her classroom. In February of 2008 she worked up the nerve to play her first open mic night at the Sit 'n' Bull in Maynard. Check out the article from Mothertown: http://www.townonline.com/mothertown/homepage/x2136083000She has also played at the Harvest Cafe open mic in Hudson, MA and the open mic at Club Passim in Harvard Square.

100 bad songs?

I read in the Club Passim newsletter that you need to write 100 bad songs before you write a good song.  So does that mean since I've only written 8 songs, that I have 92 to go?  Scary.
