My Interests

I'd like to meet:

"A Little Bit of History"

The Sabrett company may not be the largest manufacturer of hot dogs, but it's the most famous, and the most familiar to New Yorkers. Many New Yorkers insist that if it's not a Sabrett hot dog, it's not authentic. All over New York one can see hot dog stands with brightly colored blue and yellow umbrellas bearing the Sabrett insignia.
If you love hot dogs, and you have ever been to New York, then you know the best hot dogs in the world are Sabrett. Sabrett hot dogs get their fine taste from their natural casing and the fact that they are all-beef hot dogs. One bite of one of these dogs and you'll experience the toothsome "snap"! A vendor who serves "skinless" hot dogs is merely cutting corners for economy's sake.
Mustard is the favorite hot dog topping among Americans, year after year beating out sauerkraut and chili and cheese and onions and ketchup. Ketchup is the least favorite of the toppings. Anyone sputtering ketchup on one's hot dog will probably elicit chuckles from the vendor, and from any native New Yorkers who happen to be around. The mustard is usually a "deli" style mustard, not that French's type. The sauerkraut should be pure, white, and crisp. The onion sauce is a reddish color, and tastes both sweet and savory at the same time, with a little spicy bite on the finish. Prepared chili, without beans, is sometimes offered by a vendor for which an extra charge is levied should you like a "chili dog." If your vendor is truly authentic, among the soda offerings, beside a cola, will be cream, black cherry and root beer. Whether you like your hot dog bare or prefer to dress it up, you are in good company with hot dog lovers everywhere.
You will see loads of hot dog stands in New York along the roadside or sidewalk, but always look for the Sabrett umbrella if you want the dog of all hot dogs! A roadside or sidewalk Sabrett is always better than Sabretts you cook yourself!
"Some Facts About Hot Dogs"
More than 25 million hot dogs are served up at baseball games each year.
According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, New Yorkers consume more hot dogs than any other city in the world.
The most popular hot dog topping among adults is mustard (87.6%). Among children, it is ketchup.
Weight Watchers includes hot dogs in its medically-approved diet regimen.
Bruce Willis proposed to Demi Moore in front of a hot dog stand. Can't get more romantic than that!
The biggest hot dog ever made was 65.6 feet long.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans consume 7 billion hot dogs which breaks down to 818 hot dogs consumed every second during the summer.
"Roadside Food"

Roadside food developed in response to the fast-growing American market of hungry travelers. Unlike its culinary cousin known as fast food, roadside food typically involves a measure of hands-on craftsmanship in its preparation and presentation.
America’s ability to produce almost anything on an assembly line served it well in the development and adoption of fast food as the unofficial national cuisine. The country’s vast expanse cultivated an obsession with travel, facilitated first by the railroads and then by the automobile. Eating habits would necessarily have to conform to this quicker pace of life, now precisely measured by mechanical clocks.
The spread and improvement of the national road network that began in the 1920s inspired thousands of enterprising individuals to set up some of the earliest roadside businesses designed specifically for the automobile trade. These early attempts at serving food at the roadside adhered to local culinary traditions, adapted to the quicker pace of this new mobile market.
Though enormously popular in its own right, the hot dog became a very popular roadside food. Easy to prepare and to eat, the hot dog has become an iconic American meal. While a hamburger has few varieties, hot dogs developed many regional identities, methods of preparation, and corresponding names, such as Coney’s, franks, wieners, hots, pups, and tube steaks.
By the 1930s, roadside food and advertising hit its stride. Operators built highly distinctive structures to lure passing motorists, often in the image of their signature product or their name. Following the typical American business model, the roadside stand would spread quickly across the landscape in its early years and attracted anyone with cooking abilities willing to work hard. Those stakingout the better locations and having savvier marketing and management abilities trumped the competition. By the 1950s, the industry would set and maintain a standard for family-friendly dining: Clean, consistent, inexpensive, and homey.
American roadside food today has lost little of its actual variety though much of its ubiquity. Local variations of roadside food have become much harder to find in recent years due to extremely relentless competition and stricter government regulations. Yet the cuisine still thrives in more remote locations or where operators have upheld high standards of quality and value!

"Tidbits And News"

Cupcakes were first baked in the early 1800s, these miniature cakes have hardly changed. But two centuries later, cupcakes are more popular than ever.
Not only have they become an accepted wedding cake alternative, they're also exchanged as gifts and considered equally delectable to both adult and child — not to mention entrepreneur.
In the past decade, dozens of cupcake shops have opened in metropolitan cities across the country, including New York and Los Angeles, following the direction of Manhattan's Magnolia Bakery, often credited for starting the so-called "cupcake craze” in the 1990s.
Cupcakes is the newest craze! Make one or get one FREE at Nick's on "Customer Appreciation Day!"
