WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
You have quite a few options available. Remember that it is your responsibility to make an informed choice on behalf of your child.
1. Take the risk of fully vaccinating without more research and be prepared to live with the consequences.
2. Partially vaccinate, however do not assume this will be safe. Mortality/morbidity has occurred even from one dose, and you cannot predict which vaccine(s) will harm your child.
3. Separate combined vaccines. This has not been shown to be safer, and if the total poison intake is higher, it may be worse.
4. Delay vaccination until the immune system is more mature. Mortality/morbidity is still a risk. It has occurred even in adults.
5. Research published information about adverse effects and vaccine ineffectiveness before you decide. Investigate how healthy unvaccinated children are.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU GIVE BIRTH
We would like to take a moment and address some medical procedures that will happen shortly after birth.New parent or even parents who are on their 2,3 or more child, may be completely unaware of the dangers that can be avoided to their new baby...We as parents want to believe that the medical establishment has our best interest at heart and must know more then us...If you beleive this you are sadly mistaken..I urge anyone who is pregnant,adopting,thinking bout adding to your family or just know of someone...Please be your own medical advocate!Research, Read, Ask Questions ,and never take a answer at face value always look for 2nd,3rd possible answers ..as this is a safety per-caution for you and your family.Clamping/Cutting of the Umbilical CordAs for clamping the umbilical cord, unless there is danger to the baby of strangulation or impeded delivery, the umbilical cord should never be clamped or cut until it has stopped pulsating and your baby is breathing air. While the cord is pulsating it is still providing oxygen to your baby's brain and pre-mature severing can cause brain damage, heart problems to name a few.Fact: premature clamping/cutting of the umbilical cord deprives babies of up to 40% of their natural blood volume, including platelets and other clotting factors*Discuss with your doctor that as long as there is no medical reasons that require pre-mature cutting of the umbilical cord,That you request that the cord not be clamped or cut untill it has completely quit pulsating(the baby cord is usally long enough for the baby to be laid on the mothers belly or at the breast even while the cord is still attached)Do Not assume that your doctor will do this with out requesting*Eye CareEye drops are routine administered to newborns, and again they are not without controversy. Traditionally Silver Nitrate was put in the newborns eyes after the birth to kill bacteria that may have been picked in the birth canal (like gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc.). There were many cases of eye irritation stemming from this and so now erythromycin antibiotic ointment is used. However, there is still concern over the effects of this ointment on the newborns health and speculation over whether or not it should be given routinely.*If your newborn has a slight goopy discharge from their eyes or you often find crusties in them, expressing a little breastmilk into the affected or both eyes will clear up any minor problems. Breastmilk contains many beneficial properties and has a success record of being used in this way.*The most significant of these bacteria are the ones that cause the sexually transmitted diseases gonorrhea and chlamydia. However, the use of these antibiotic drops or ointment also help prevent infection with more "run-of-mill' bacteria which may also be acquired shortly after birth. Left unchecked, the gonorrhea and chlamydia bacteria can cause permanent visual impairment and also spread to other parts of the body such as the lungs causing pneumonia. And with 4 million people in the United States that are currently estimated to have chlamydia infections, there are thousands of babies that are potentially benefiting from the use of these topical antibiotics.But of course there are many women who find this strategy of treating all infants somewhat personally offensive. Why treat the babies of women who clearly have no history or symptoms of these sexually transmitted diseases?*Being in a committed relationship with a monogamous partner and having Test preformed to rule out possible infection is the best way to prevent this medical condition...If you are not in a stable monogamous relationship then prior to giving birth i would abstain from any sexual relations and again have the proper test done to rule on any sexual infections.*what is silver nitrate?For more than 40 years we have known that silver is a hard, proven carcinogen - a cancer-causing agent. Metallic silver is listed in the 1979 Registry of Toxic Effects as causing cancer in animals. Claims that it is safe have come primarily from the companies that make silver products - hardly a trustworthy source of unbiased information. Silver in any form is a bio-accumulative toxic heavy metal, like mercury, lead, and arsenic. Its action as an antibiotic comes from the fact that it is a non-selective toxic "biocide."The silver manufacturers claim that they are not subject to any federal laws about safety because silver was used before the Food and Drug Act - that they are grandfathered. Of course this begs the question: so were lead and mercury preparations and many other extremely toxic "medicines" that have since been banned from commerce.We suggest you consult your doctor and do your own private research before you allow silver nitrate or any other eye drops to be used in you newborn infant eyes.Vitamin K at Birth is it really safe and necessary?Toxic ingredients accompanying the Vitamin K· The vitamin K injections administered by hospitals and manufactured by Merck and Roche and Abbott contain benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The 1989 PDR states that, "there is no evidence to suggest that the small amount of benzyl alcohol contained in AquaMEPHYTON (Merck's vitamin K injection product), when used as recommended, is associated with toxicity." Interestingly, in November 1988, the French medical journal, Dev Pharmacol Ther, published a paper regarding benzyl alcohol metabolism and elimination in babies. The report stated that "..we cannot directly answer the issue of safety of low doses of benzyl alcohol as found in some medications administered to neonates. This study confirms the immaturity of the benzoic acid detoxification process in premature newborns."· Roche's vitamin K product KONAKION contains ingredients such as phenol (carbolic acid-a poisonous substance distilled from coal tar), propylene glycol (derived from petroleum and used as an antifreeze and in hydraulic brake fluid) and acetic acid (an astringent antimicrobial agent that may drastically reduce the amount of natural vitamin K that would have otherwise been produced in the digestive tract). As reported in the PDR and as published in the IM vitamin K packet inserts for Merck, Roche and Abbott, "Studies of carcinogenicity, mutagenesis or impairment of fertility have not been conducted with Vitamin K1 Injection (Phytonadione Injection, USP)."· The Vitamin K injection can be in a base of polyethoxylated castor oil.· Vitamin K injections also contain hydrochloric acid and lecithin.Effects of Vitamin K administration· The manufacturers warn on the product insert: "Severe reactions, including fatalities, have occurred during and immediately after intravenous injection of phytonadione even when precautions have been taken to dilute the vitamin and avoid rapid infusion..."· The Vitamin K shot has been linked to leukaemia, including acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, which is characterized by an increased number of white corpuscles in the blood, and accounts for about 85 percent of childhood leukaemia. Research carried out by Dr. Louise Parker, of the Sir James Spence Institute of Child Health in Newcastle upon Tyne, produced the most startling results. Dr. Louise Parker was quoted in the British Medical Journal in 1998 as stating, "It is not possible, on the basis of currently published evidence, to refute the suggestion that neonatal IM vitamin K administration increases the risk of early childhood leukemia.".The British Journal of Cancer published "Factors associated with childhood cancer" by J. Golding, et al, in 1990. The report indicated that universally administered IM vitamin K injections significantly increase our children's chances of developing childhood cancer. A follow-up study published two years later in the British Medical Journal (Golding J, Paterson K, Greenwood R, Mott M. Intramuscular vitamin K and childhood cancer. BMJ 1992; 305:341-346.) reinforced the findings of the previous study. The authors' comments, in keeping with scientific style, are conservatively stated, but parents who are concerned about the health of their babies will read "danger" between the following lines: "The only two studies so far to have examined the relation between childhood cancer and intramuscular vitamin K have shown similar results and the relation is biologically plausible. The prophylactic benefits against haemorrhagic disease are unlikely to exceed the potential adverse effects from intramuscular vitamin K..."*The chance of your child developing leukaemia from the Vitamin K shot is estimated to be about 1 in 500 (MIDIRS Midwifery Digest, Vol 2 3, September 1992)*· Animal studies have linked large doses of vitamin K to a variety of conditions that include anaemia, liver damage, kidney damage and death.· Interestingly the common problem that occurs these days of jaundice in newborns has only been reported since the introduction of Vitamin K administration.· According to the product insert, adverse reactions include haemolysis (or hemolysis - American spelling) (meaning breakdown of red blood cells), haemolytic anaemia (a disorder characterised by chronic premature destruction of red blood cells), hyperbilirubinemia (too much bilirubin in blood) and jaundice (yellow skin and eyes resulting from hyperbilirubinemia), and allergic reactions include face flushing, gastrointestinal upset, rash, redness, pain or swelling at injection site and itching skin. It also warns that large enough doses can cause brain damage in infants and/or impairment to liver function. Hypoxia has also been published as having occurred in infants after Vitamin K administration.*Vitamin K must be injected deeply into the tissue which is painful to say the least,It can cause muscle damage amoung other things*Vitamin K causes jaundice!!!!You must be wondering Why do they administer Vitamin K to newborns?Some infants our born with rare blood disorder,So as a one-size-fits-all solution the medical establishment has decided that ,All Newborn infants routinely receive a vitamin K shot after birth in order to prevent (or slow) a rare problem of bleeding into the brain weeks after birth.which effects and Avg. 2% of newbornsAlso,Early or "Classic" HDN (also called Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding) occurs in the first week of life. It is an iatrogenic condition, meaning that it is caused by medical care:premature clamping/cutting of the umbilical cord deprives babies of up to 40% of their natural blood volume, including platelets and other clotting factors
the use of vacuum extractor or forceps often causes bruising or internal bleeding, which uses up the baby's available clotting factors
the use of antibiotics inhibits the baby's generation of clotting factorsThe problem of bleeding into the brain occurs mainly from 3 to 7 weeks after birth in just over 5 out of 100,000 births (without vitamin K injections); 90% of those cases are breastfed infants,3 because formulas are supplemented with unnaturally high levels of vitamin K.The cause of this bleeding trauma is generally liver disease that has not been detected until the bleeding occurs. Several liver problems can reduce the liver's ability to make blood-clotting factors out of vitamin K; therefore extra K helps this situation. Infants exposed to drugs or alcohol through any means are especially at risk, and those from mothers on anti-epileptic medications are at very high risk and need special attentionSuch complications reduce the effectiveness of vitamin K, and in these cases, a higher level of available K could prevent the tragic intracranial bleeding. This rare bleeding disorder has been found to be highly preventable by a large-dose injection of vitamin K at birth.The downside of this practice however is a possibly 80% increased risk of developing childhood leukemia. While a few studies have refuted this suggestion, several tightly controlled studies have shown this correlation to be most likely.4,5 A more recent analysis of six different studies suggests it may be a 10 or 20% increased risk. This is still a significant number of avoidable cancersApparently the cell division that continues to be quite rapid after birth continues to depend on precise amounts of vitamin K to proceed at the proper rate. Introduction of levels that are 20,000 times the newborn level, the amount usually injected, can have devastating consequences.Does Nature know Best?When a woman is pregnant ,towards the end of gestastion,the fetus begins developing some of the other blood clotting factors,developing two key factors just before term birth.It has recently been shown that Vitamin K is involved in regulating the rate of cell division in the fetus.*It is possible that abnormally High levels of Vitamin K,can allow cell division to get out of hand,Leading Cancer.*Nursing raises the infant's vitamin K levels very gradually after birth so that no disregulation occurs that would encourage leukemia development. Additionally, the clotting system of the healthy newborn is well planned, and healthy breastfed infants do not suffer bleeding complications, even without any supplementation.While breastfed infants demonstrate lower blood levels of vitamin K than the "recommended" amount, they show no signs of vitamin K deficiency (leading one to wonder where the "recommended" level for infants came from). But with vitamin K injections at birth, harmful consequences of some rare disorders that effect an avg. 2 % of newborns can be averted.Infant formulas are supplemented with high levels of vitamin K, Although formula feeding is seen to increase overall childhood cancer rates by 80%, It is unsure wether is is or is not related to the added vitamin K.Extracting data from available literature reveals that there are 1.5 extra cases of leukemia per 100,000 children due to vitamin K injectionsSome very recent studies in The Lancet have associated increased clotting with twice the likelihood of death from bacterial meningitis. These higher clotting factors may increase the risk from all bacterial infections. Since the purpose of administration of vitamin K is to increase clotting factors, is it possible that this is also inadvertently increasing a newborn's susceptibility to infection?Although vitamin K doesn't pass easily from the mother's bloodstream to the newborn through the placenta, it DOES pass easily through breastmilk. (Doesn't this seem like a strong clue that nature is actually protecting the baby somehow by managing the clotting factors in a very specific way?) Women who eat lots of fresh, leafy green vegetables will pass the vitamin K through to their babies, and this will protect them from late-onset HDN.So, maybe nature got it right, after all, and all we have to do is support physiological health by waiting at least 5 minutes after the birth to cut the cord and by encouraging nursing mothers to eat lots of fresh, leafy green vegetables (or take a vitamin K supplement).Some exceptions are:Some maternal medications interfere with vitamin K, such as anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, and antibiotics. [Maternal vitamin K supplementation that is administered prenatally may prevent this form of HDN.Vitamin K generation is also inhibited in babies who have received antibiotics.A very few babies will have a liver disorder that prevents the normal production of vitamin K in the newborn's gut; symptoms tend to appear slowly.Other risk factors include diarrhea, hepatitis, cystic fibrosis (CF), celiac disease, and alpha1-antitrypin deficiency.Signs Suggesting Need for Vitamin K:bleeding from the umbilicus, nose, mouth, ears, urinary tract or rectum

Indeed,with my first baby,through mis-managed circumstances,my husband and I were house-hunting 8 days post partum!I gasp to think of it now!
In some cultures it is customary to seclude mother and baby for up to a month or mre,and this,I think,is more like it !
With my second child i refused to leave my home outside of doctor appointments for 2 months,then i still limited visitors to just a special few.
If you can secure help from family and friends for the postpartum fortnight,do so! Take full advantage of people offering help with meals ,laundry etc. your life will develop it's new rhythm soon enough and you'll be back on top of things,but now is definitely the time to let some stuff slide!
If you are unable to have help i advise to stock up on necessacitys and cook and freeze meals for future consumption. as this will help with having to leave your home for shopping and allowing you the luxury of not having to cook meals.
Enjoy the adjustment period of establishing breastfeeding,bonding with your baby,stay in your PJ's ,sleep when baby sleeps,and spend time with your baby bonding when he/she is awake
