Musica Bella is the current webpage for Claire Craig-Sheets, mezzo-soprano. Based in Portland, OR, I am currently a member of the Portland Opera chorus, the Portland State University opera program, and am finishing my last year of school. I perform regularly as a soloist in the area, both sacred and secular, and also work part-time as a piano accompanist.I have been involved in classical music in some form since age 9, when I joined the Portland Opera Children's Chorus for La Boheme, where I performed for five seasons. I began studying vocal technique a year later with Carole Stewart (formerly of Willamette University). I participated in numerous competitions during my adolescence, taking part in the NATS auditions, master classes around Pacific Northwest, the Mu Phi Epsilon music society scholarship auditions (winner), and Bel Canto Northwest.I continued my vocal studies with Ruth Dobson at Portland State University in 2001, and began learning operatic roles that year, starting with the lead in Rossini's La Cenerentola. While studying with Professor Dobson, I also performed with the Oregon Symphony as part of Neil DuPont's Young Artists at the Schnitz concert program.Currently, i study with Pamela South (still at Portland State), and as I near my graduation in June, I have been recording arias and art songs for audition packets, and will continue to post them on the MySpace music player.Thank you for your support!
