About Me

Jim had the classic pop music start as the lead singer in junior high & high school hard rock cover bands. Leaving the bandmates behind to attend college (U. of Illinois), Jim picked up the guitar out of musical boredom and discovered he liked to write. Some folks thought he was pretty good, too, and he was recorded live for the Red Herring Coffeehouse Folk Festival album "Folk + Music at the Red Herring" in 1983. After completing his undergraduate degree, he headed north to Alaska, performing in clubs, restaurants and coffeehouses along the Kenai Peninsula. In the spring of 1985, Jim was offered a scholarship to study for a graduate degree in Advertising. He returned to the U. of I., but continued to actively pursue his musical ambitions with numerous club dates and appearances on cable TV and radio. After receiving his Master's degree, and while working in the market research field, he released the cassette-album "Dreamin' On A Highway" (1987).Music became Jim's full-time profession in 1989, when he moved to Summit County, Colorado. That first year alone he performed in Colorado, Chicago, Atlanta, and throughout the Midwest. He made Vail, CO his home base in 1992, becoming a mainstay on the mountain resort stages and building an international mailing list. In 1995 he was cast in the lead role as "David Shepard" in the debut of Don Watson's contemporary opera "Come To The River". His CD "Reach" was released in 1996, an effort the Vail Valley Dine & Party Guide called "a landscape of life painted with strokes of acoustic brilliance. The pallet is filled with fine vocals, brilliant guitar work and thought-provoking lyrics."The follow-up CD "Take Some Time" was released in 2000 - and during the tour in support of that CD, Flagstaff LIVE! wrote that "Edfors electrifies with an approach to the guitar that is, at the same time, both aggressive and loaded with finesse."Today Jim resides in Golden, CO, and continues to perform both solo and with various combos in the mountain resorts, across the Front Range, and on tour across the country. Much of his work is entertaining for private parties, banquets and corporate events.
