HOW DETROIT ARE YOU

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and I started playing drums when I was eight years old. With influences such as John Bonham, Keith Moon, Tommy Aldridge, and, of course, Neil Peart, I honed my skills to as fine an edge as I could muster emulating these masters. Today, I continue to attempt to hone my skills, studying influences such as Mike Portnoy, Carter Beauford, and Vinnie Paul.
I play Mapex drums and Zildjian A Custom and Sabian AAX cymbals on Pearl hardware. I use LP bells and blocks, push Pearl Eliminator 2002C pedals, and wield Vic Firth 8DN and Pro-Mark Mike Portnoy Autograph Series sticks as my weapons of choice. Undergoing the merciless sonic assault are Evans EC2 drum heads (both batter and resonant) and an Aquarian Superkick II on the kick.
I've recently started playing bass and seem to have taken to it like a fish to water. I enjoy playing bass as much as playing drums, and I find all of the nuances of learning scales and modes fascinating. My biggest influences are Victor Wooten, John Paul Jones, John McVie, John Entwistle, and, of course, Jaco Pastorius.
I prefer Ibanez basses and D'Addario XL strings, although I'd like to get a Fender American Standard Precision and a Spector someday.
I have played in numerous bands both in my home state of Michigan and in West Virginia. My latest endeavor has been working on the production side of music, recording and working with various musicians around the state, laying down drum and bass tracks, and editing and mixing. Arranging all the various parts of a song, building them layer upon layer, never knowing where the song will go or how it will end up, and taking assorted pieces of music and fitting them together in a synergistic way is as gratifying to me as actually playing.
On the personal side, I love sports, especially football (college and pro) and hockey (Go Wings!). I miss living in Michigan terribly, not just because there isn't one major sports team here in WV, but also because I just don't quite fit in with the whole chip-on-your-shoulder-"I'm-from-West-by-God-Virginia" thing.
When it comes to friendship, I am fiercely loyal to my friends, and I do not have the time or the patience for disingenuous people. I've run across too many of that sort here in WV. If you're going to be a friend, be a friend not only when YOU need something but also when you don't.
I am very driven when it comes to accomplishing things I set my mind to; I don't sit around and talk about doing something: I formulate a plan and execute it. I've always said that I've never "dabbled" in anything in my life; I either do something all out, or I don't do it at all; there is no in between, which is a blessing and a curse. Lately, I've learned that I'm not so much on a different page than some of my friends here in WV but just a different timetable!
I'm married to a wonderful wife who actually supports my musical pastime, and we currently reside in Charleston (although we will soon be moving into a BEAUTIFUL house in Cross Lanes!), where we live with our two beloved "canine children" and a baby on the way!

Why "67 Riot"? The name "67 Riot" comes from the fact that I was born in 1967 in Detroit during the Detroit riots of that same year. My mom used to joke that when I was born, it caused a riot!
