About Me

I get my Free MySpace Layouts at MySpaceStop.comgodK.E is the final metamorphasis of an emcee born to serve Hip Hop. Born William J Powell Jr., in Newport News, VA to William J Powell Sr. & Joyce Kelly Powell in the year of the Lord 1978, Nov. 29th, K was the youngest of three and only boy in his household. Raised throughout the city, he spent the majority of his time at his grandparent’s home on the corner of 29th St. and Marshall Ave.. There in the East End section of Newport News, known as Downtown, he began practicing and perfecting his craft. 29th street would be his only refuge in a life filled with turmoil, vagrancy, and nomadic living situations following his parents separation in fall of ’87. From pillar to post, pot to frying pan, he, his mother, and sister struggled to keep there heads above water. During these horrific times Hip Hop kept young K.E sane and level headed. Although money was beyond tight, more like none existant, he decided that the streetlife, though beneficial to learn certain aspects, was not his path to financial freedom. He continued to develop is lyrical skill. Finally, after years of writing and practicing, in his Junior year at Warwick High he entered the TSA talent show and spit "Ghetto Stories", a classic mid ninties street tale of hustling and trying to make it. Though lyrically sound, he felt that it wasn’t a ture representation of him as an emcee. He got down with a crew of DJ’s and MC’s called Tremendous Entertainment the following year. They threw parties at Union hall, local American Legions, and places of that nature. He paid his dues, working his way from the door to the stage but was never truly satisfied with his role. However this was the opportunity that brought the Big Will the Lyrical Messiah and Big Hood the Ruckbringa together to form the Forbidden. Hard street flows over haunting tracks produced by Hood, had the group catching a buzz in the late ’96 - early ’97, but after a possible deal with Ebony Entertainment went south in Feb. ’97, K.E made a decision that would forever change the lives of the group. Upset opportunities in Virginia, K went to Keystone Job Corps, Drums,PA in April. There he met up with and performed with othe underground emcees from Philly, NY, NJ, DC and other places across the east coast. There in PA is where K.E truly found not only himself, but Knowledge of Self. Adopting the name Khalani Elijah, K developed a more consciously aware style of rhyming and politically based concepts, while maintaining his roots in battle style street spitting. Though K was growing as an emcee and planning for his return to VA, his partner Hood was locked up and trooped a bid. Holding it down for his man K.E started Forbidden Family Entertainment in 1999, once returning home to Virginia. Amongst the early talent were Lazwurdz, a rapid fire emcee out of Saginaw, MI, Killa the Arch Angel, Lord Fuqua, Street Villians, Lex McGlintock and others. Joe Trax did the majority of the early production as well as Producers he met online like Syntax, Mez, Presto and others. He did a song," Only One" for a Starving Artist Ent. Compilation, Taking Heads Vol. II, and was doing local showcases for Jazzy P, at Wipe Out Eddies, Fuzzy Wednesdays, Urban Safari and won the Norfolk State Freestyle battle, beating his Forbidden Co-D Lazwurdz in the finals. Also he went to New York about a month after the towers fell and recorded a verse for Atlantic recording artist Lina remix of "Play No More", hooked up by Fondation Entertainment CEO Marcel Williams. But with struggles to keep ahead finacially K.E took a hiatus from the game in 2002-2004, focusing on his family and there needs. During the Hiatius he met a hungry young producer looking for a shot. This cat’s passion and vorocity for the game rejuvinated K.E to begin working on music again. That guy was none other than Mic Buckkets. He released Lyrical Oasis Mixtape Vol. I in March of ’06, and March 17, 2007 along with Buckkets put on Resurrection Night: the Re-Birth of Hip Hop concert hosted by DJ Silk. This tremendous night of Hip Hop included performances by Sima Lee feat. Lyricist Project, Jhunippuz, No Wun, a special guest apperance by Double XL, and closed out with Forbidden Family’s own godK.E. Up next for the Lyrical Messiah is the FSG project release, May 6, 2008.Change the World One Ear @ a Time. Evolutionize the Movement. Bring Hip Hop Home. Love is Love. godK.E
