About Me

With "Listen To My Demo" being deemed a certified success on the streets, Benny Hoffman has decided to up the ante with his new release "Benny The Gent". The inspirationfor his new album comes from his lifestyle as well as the lifestyle of James "Jimmy TheGent" Burke, who Benny recently realized had a life that chilling resembles his own. Benjamin Wesley Hoffman was born in New Orleans on January 14, 1979, in the nownotorious Lower Ninth Ward. Long before hurricane Katrina The Ninth Ward was plagued bymurder, death, and violence. So much in fact, Benjamin's older brother was murdered infront of himself and his mother! Soon after, Benjamin's mother decided that she didn't wantto raise her children in a city the size of New Orleans as bloody as New Orleans. After some years of relocating Benny would end up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant sectionof Brooklyn, Ny, This would be home! This would also be the birthplace of all the storieshe would later rhyme about, For years Benny was known by his nickname but it wasn't until afriend recomended he also go by his last name that he was complete. This is when the streets of Brooklyn becameacquainted with BENNY HOFFMAN! Unfortunately years of Benny's familiararity with street lifeset him on a path where experience was his only teacher. About a year after Benny moved toBrooklyn he developed a skill for rhyming, Benny always got a kick out of listening andwatching street kids rhyme about the things he really knew about, inspiring him to persue acareer in rap. Benny was always interested in Hip-Hop due to his brother's knowledge ofmusic and he knew he always had a knack for writing "dark" poetry that was symbolic of hisdistinctive lifestyle, Thus the career of Benny Hoffman was born! Spending years in thestreets perfecting his craft, Benny was responsible for making a reputation for himself asan emcee, even performing at Webster Hall on one occasion,He also performed on mixtapes andappeared at freestyle battles all over the city. This dedication earned Benny his firstrecord deal! Benny was all heart and no knowledge when it came to the politics of the musicindustry, due to ill advice and his lack of financial knowledge Benny would soon hit abrick wall! After 10 months of living the "high" life, Benny was shelved then dropped! After a dose of reality, Benny had to find a real job, he found one at the WorldTrade Center through Continental Agency as a Kitchen Utility Worker, All was well until9/11. With no steady income to pay his rent, Benny was in a bind and had to seek help fromfamily. Benny's mother moved to North Carolina earlier in the year and explained to Bennythat his options were few to none if he didn't come to North Carolina! In the early 1970's their was a great deal of people leaving different areas of thesouth for California, though their was none greater than the amount people leaving thegulf coast for Los Angeles, though Benny was not born yet, this would have a great impacton his life. After several phone calls Benny found out that he did indeed have droves ofextended family in Los Angeles.......Benny chose Los Angeles over the prospect of living inNorth Carolina. On May 2, 2002, Benny moved to big, bad, South Central Los Angeles, hoping to makesome industry connections, benny thought that this was the logical choice. Benny continuedto run the streets just as he did in Brooklyn, but this time with no results, except thekind of results that gave him the right to call West 71st home. As time passed, as much ashe loved L.A., Benny grew homesick and wanted to move back to the East to be closer withhis immediate family, so on May 18, 2004, thats exactly what he did.Getting use to North Carolina would not be easy for Benny to do. On May 22, 2004Benny got off the bus and set his feet on Nc soil in the small town of Greensboro, Nc.With nothing to do except write, Benny grew tired of Nc just after 2 weeks, But as timepassed he realized that it had been a long time since he had time and peace to think.Benny would put his abundance of time to use. In 2005 Benny Hoffman coined the phrase"NorthBrookOrleans, Ca" which came from Benny realizing that he could no longer rep onecity. In 2006 Benny began work on his Debut Ep entitled "Listen To My Demo". After monthsof hard work the cd was released and recieved critical acclaim from fans and peers alike. With some downtime he had in 2007 Benny began to read on a person he foundinteresting.......James Burke! Having learned of James Burke 10 years earlier, Benny feltthat he shared some connection with the Irishman! Upon tallying all the facts, Benny wasinspired yet again and decided to began work on an album. Citing the vast similarites inMr. Burke's life and his own life, Benny decided that "Benny The Gent" would indeed be hisnext album! Due in stores October 31, 2010. .. ..I edited my profile at "Listen To My Demo photo shoot"!
