About Me

Avondale first started with Marc and Manny. Two friends that have known each other since junior high school. Actually, Manny taught Marc his first songs on the guitar back in 1995 such as REM'S "Everybody Hurts", Hole's "Doll Parts" and of course, Nirvana's "Polly". Soon after, Marc would start learning anything he could on the guitar just to get better. He would go home right after school and put on his favorite cd's and try to figure them out by ear. The first song he figured out was Foo Fighters "Big Me". Then like every guitar player, he eventually started to write his own songs, and of course they were terrible but over time they started to sound better and were becoming better structured as well. Now fast-foward to late last year (2007), Manny and Marc would still get together. Just 2 friends who loved to listen to music, drink lots of beer and play guitar. One day Marc showed him a song that he had just finished writing and Manny started playing a lead part over it and within 20 minutes a song was fully completed and Avondale was unknowingly born.
Marc knew that they had something going so now it was time to find a bassist who would be as dedicated and loved music as much as they do so the choice for a bassist was a simple one. Enter Vinny. Vinny is a music buff who enjoys not only rock/alternative but metal, hip hop, reggae, dance/house....etc. He doesnt necessarily label himself to one particular style but appreciates all music genres. He's one of the most knowledgeable people that you'll ever meet when it comes to music. He's very out going and can get along with just about anybody and that's what Avondale needed. Vinny and Manny were also members in a band called Wasted Circle a few years back. They made a little name for themselves and had quite a following but due to creative differences/personalities, that band dismembered after a long 6 years together. Vinny's main instrument at the time was guitar but made the commitement of switching to bass so that Avondale could move foward as a tight group of friends.
Now the obvious came into focus...they needed a singer. This is were things can get tricky, Avondale didnt just want anyone who could sing, they wanted a singer who could REALLY sing and has an appeal to an audience as a whole. One day Marc was on Craigslist and saw an ad from a fellow female musician who was looking for a band in the local area so after writing to her, she soon replied and in that instant, Avondale was officially born. Her name was Ruth. Ruth is originally from Alaska and in order for her to pursue her dreams, she made a daring move. She made the decision to relocate to Florida which meant leaving her friends and family behind in order to capture her dreams. Her voice is larger than life and soon others started to take notice at her amazing talent. She's worked and recorded with George Acosta amongst a few other bands here in the S. Florida area but it wasnt what she really wanted to do in the long run.
Eventually Marc and Ruth exchaged mp3's samples of their music via email and quickly realized that they liked each others style and shortly after the pair decided to meet up. The vibes were good all around and so they decided to meet up again, this time it was to have practice with Manny and Vinny as well. Within that first pratice, they all knew that they had something together and so another practice followed by another and another. Songs were being written and so here they are today. Not writing songs because they have to, (because they dont get paid) but because they love to and they hope that you'll love it too. This is our story. This is our music. This is Avondale.
