Tibi Lubin

About Me

Formed in the musical hideouts of Glasgow in 2001, thereafter Tibi Lubin developed their idiosyncratic indie pop. Debut album 'I Don't See You as a Dead Girl' (Rev-Ola, 2004) was praised for its ingenuous beauty, garnering comparisons to the sweetie-pie minimalism of Young Marble Giants and The Marine Girls, and the perverse girl group dynamics of Slumber Party. A more sophisticated, smoother sound characterised 'Frankie Quinn', a 3 song single released on Hamburg's Aufgeladen & Bereit in early 2007. Tibi Lubin disbanded later in the year, but individual members continue to play music in different manifestations. Have a look within our 'Top Friends'...

note: Tibi Lubin was a child actor from the 1920s or thereabouts of East-European origin. As a band name, it is intended to convey Dada-inspired meaninglessness, vague exoticism and pretty symmetry.

Sounds Like: "Throws a lasso around the breathy French aesthetic of the likes of Claudine Longet and marries it to a sparse backing that recalls the delights of The Marine Girls, Young Marble Giants or Slumber Party."
- Tangents

"Tibi's debut album is a kind of minimalist kitchen sink opus concocted from skinny electric guitar and occasional drum machine and Korg synth."
- Shindig!

"Songs like 'Calling Hettie Jones' and 'Miss Myopia' start off shambly, almost Shaggs-like, the guitar and voice playing flashlight tag before melding together into heart-stopping melody."
