About Me

Jean Robert Ben Danan was drawn by a powerful desire to the guitar at the age of 9. This was how the magical world of music opened up for him and that, in the end, took him to almost every corner of the globe. Upon the completion of his studies at the Conservatoire of Marseille with Rene Bartoli, France, he received his diploma which enabled him to perform in concerts. At the same time, he was awarded the Gold Medal Virtuoso prize during the National Music Competition. Jean Robert then embarked on a worldwide tour which encompassed Holland, Singapore and Australia. In Australia, he was chosen by the Board of Governors of the Conservatoire of Sydney to be a professor at the age of 23! He declined the offer to continue his travels full of new discovery, sounds and harmonies. With time he found his own expression and creative style. The classic repertoire of Jean Robert started to get a “tropical tan” and be infused with the delicate fragrances of the winds of the Pacific Ocean. He began to lean more and more towards a style which would come to dominate his main creations—La Bossa Nova. During the same period Jean Robert worked at Club Med where he gave many concerts and performances. Through this experience he finds his main audience and learns how to conquer their hearts. In 1994 he records his first album, “C’est Beau, ca…La Bossa.” Next comes his creation, “Escale” from which will grow the future concert series of the same name. The performances from then on, begin to represent a blending of different cultures from all over the world. He plays with the same ease, songs of the Brazilian style, (Baden Powel, A.C. Jobim) classic Spanish, (Isaac Albeniz, Joaquin Rodrigo) and selections of the great British artists, (Beatles, Elton John) and of course the classics of the French repertoire, (Piaf, Brel, Montand...). As a result of his world tour in 1998 and his incomparable influence, he records the album, “Escale.” He is invited to perform on television and radio programmes. The media emphasize his “remarkable and unusual musical sensitivity,” “his expressive powers that unify the audience and artist to feel as one together.” Since his move to Israel, Modi'in, in 2004, Jean Robert continues his musical career as a master teacher at the Conservatoire of Netanya and Shoham and with private lessons. He performs in concerts all over the country. He participated in the “Marcel Dadi Project” which was established by Katharine Dadi, under whose auspices Jean Robert has performed with David D'Aor, (Eurovision 2004.) CONTACT.
