Hi and welcome to my my space page! I have been playing guitar and writing songs since I was fifteen. I did Community Theater and was a wandering minstrel in a nursing home until a cyst on my vocal cords forced me to quit public and private singing for eight years. Thanks to successful vocal cord surgery September 2005 and subsequent speech therapy I began performing again on May 25, 2006 and haven't stopped yet!! You can catch me monthly at Marcello's Restaurant in Suffern New York as well as various other shows throughout the month. My self produced CD: Moments of Happiness is available on CD Baby and Itunes. When I'm not performing I am busy writing new songs and recording my next CD. My music has been described as spiritual pop and my fan base range in age from 5 to 105.
I am also a certified teacher and my weekly life consists of teaching three days a week, working in a nursing home one day a week and other singing gigs in between. Factor in being a mother and wife and my time is pretty full but much more fulfilling since I have been given a second chance to do what I love so much. That doesn't often happen in life and I feel truly blessed to have had this happen to me. Besides the support of my family and friends I have also been fortunate to have an incredible doctor and surgeon (Dr. Criag Zalvan F.A.C.S) operate on my vocal cords and provide follow up that has helped me through some rough patches. He is two things everyone wants in a doctor: talented and caring!! I also must mention the speech therapist that he encouraged me to work with (Leah Ross-Kugler, M.S. CCC, SLP) She evaluated me prior to vocal cord surgery, worked with me extensively after the surgery and still sees me today to maintain my vocal health. She sang opera professionally before becoming a Speech Language Pathologist; so how lucky was that for me!! She has provided me with enormous support and guidance. Thanks for stopping by and come back soon! Maria.
