Ingrid Superstar was a Andy Warhol's superstar.
Ingrid appeared in the movies Hedy, The Chelsea Girls, Bike Boy, I, A Man, Nude Restaurant, San Diego Surf.
Poet and artist Rene Ricard (who had previously appeared with Edie Sedgwick in Kitchen) thought that Warhol's people found Ingrid at a 42nd Street bar in an effort to teach Edie Sedgwick a lesson because of her uncooperative behaviour. Gerard Malanga said it was Chuck Wein who introduced Ingrid to the Factory. Ingrid lived in New Jersey and had been working as an office temp in Manhattan.
Although Ingrid did not make as many films with Warhol as Edie did, her involvement did last longer. Her final appearance in a Warhol film was in San Diego Surf in 1968. Much later, in the 1980s, Ingrid disappeared completely.
Although Warhol had not had any contact with Ingrid for some time, he found her disappearance upsetting, particularly because nobody had told him about it.
Various authors have attributed different surnames to Ingrid Superstar. Victor Bockris used "Ingrid von Scheflin," David Bourdon used "Ingrid von Scheven," Ultra Violet used "Ingrid von Scherven" and Steven Watson used "Ingrid von Schefflen."
Different authors have also attributed different dates to Ingrid's disappearance. Steven Watson wrote that she disappeared on December 7, 1986, Victor Bockris wrote that she disappeared in February 1987. Bourdon wrote that her disappearance occured in December 1986, without giving a specific date.
The New York Post reported her disappearance in an issue in early February 1987. Billy Name had been working on a sixties reunion of Factory regulars during the last week of January and, in a phone call to Warhol on January 26, 1987, he mentioned that Ingrid was coming to the reunion.
After her disappearance, Ingrid's mother took out an advertisement in a newspaper with a message to her missing daughter, asking her to "Come back so we can play 'Morning Dew' without feeling sad".
Nobody has news about Ingrid Superstar and her whereabouts.
All I know is that Ingrid was important in the history of the Andy Warhol's films.
