The Barons were formed in 2001 when childhood friends Dave Casey, Johnny Von Baron and Jon Morris set out to put a project together that would let them indulge the influences that shaped their collective musical DNA growing up in San Diego: loud, riff-driven rock. The more amps, guitars and overall volume - the better. Mix tapes of Thin Lizzy, UFO, Black Sabbath and Motorhead fused with the thriving hot rod, chopper and tattoo culture in San Diego helped to pepper The Barons sound from day one.
Realizing that bass would be a huge part of The Barons' sonic picture, Morris, Von Baron and Casey enlisted bassist Jamie Carter to help round out the big sound they were shooting for. Casey and Carter had spent a number of years playing in the respected L.A band Flood. Coupled with Von Baron and Morris’ huge guitar sound that was developed during their time together playing with MTV-favorites Dig in the early 90’s, The Barons were well on their way to unveiling the wall of volume, riffs and overall rock & roll noise that was a true rarity in L.A at the time. All they needed was a big voice to go with the big sound. Enter Chuck Garric.
Chuck Garric has spent a majority of his career touring with some of the biggest acts in the business playing bass, most recently an ongoing position as the bass player with Alice Cooper’s band. Morris and Garric had also been friends from the days in San Diego and Morris was confident that Garric had the voice and vibe to fill the vocal spot in the project. Once Garric got on the mic and in the rehearsal room, it was obvious to everyone that he was the guy to front the band
Songwriting, recording and live shows followed and The Barons quickly earned a reputation as a band that was tapping into a truly unique angle on the rock sound: simplicity and honesty that stayed true to the “old school†presented with a new attitude, volume and punch in the face delivery. Amen!
