About Me


We opened the shop in February 2005 to have a place to feature our much copied shower caps, sleep masks, spa wraps, and earplugs. Then we thought we should bring in bubble bath and things like that, but it didn't really sell well. So then we realized we should do what we did in the Monterey store, which was have a romance department. It was called the "French Quarter" with sexy things behind a glass case. Mimi named it that because when she was about 9 years old her family went to New Orleans and toured the part of the city called the French Quarter. She went into a shop that had beautiful antiques and lingerie...inside one of the elegant cases was a large selection of dildos and vibrators. At that early age she was shocked but the images remained in her head. Since then the French Quarter has a renewed Los Angeles title and we call it "The Shy Girls Sex Shop". Our starlet customers love the soft and feminine look and feel of the store as its not weird and intimidating like "some of those stores" They buy a selection from both the Mimi A La Mode and also the S.G.S.S.
Our goal is to not just titillate but to educate young and older women about femininity and healthy sexuality.

Meet The Staff Mimi
I am a native Californian. Born in Carmel, California. A ex-new waver. A July Leo. My middle name is Mehri and in Farci it means Love. So basically "Love" is my middle name. I like that alot. I love everything vintage and Parisian inspired. Also I really am inspired by the cuteness and innocence that is represented by Hello Kitty. I became a accessory designer when I designed a shower cap to go in my new bathroom. I had been watching the Madonna "Borderline" video and thought that I wanted to look as cute in a shower cap as she looked. At the time I thought I wanted a fun shower cap to wear, just in case, my boyfriend decided to peek behind the shower curtain at me. I sold my first shower caps to I Magnin in 1989 because my roommate at the time worked in the buying office. They sold out and I started selling to alot of boutiques and mail order catalogs. I opened the Mimi A La Mode retail shop two years ago to feature our cute original designs. Melrose is a fun place to work. It is really close to Hollywood and I see celebrities walking or driving by all day long. Lambchop my 5 year old toy poodle who gets up and greets every customer that comes into the shop. Whether they like it or not. She would ring up sales if she could reach the cash register.

I'm originally from Massachusetts, I moved to California about a year ago. I've met a lot of different people and made some good relationships. I love vintage things. I love a good pump and a cute hat. I love to dance and create new things... I'm an artist in my own way. At first glance, most people think I'm one of those girls that only likes the color pink, but man is it one of my favorites. I even own pink combat boots. I'm a little bit of an oddball, but that just comes with the territory.

I'm a five year old Toy poodle. I'm black with a little bit of white. I'm a pedigree akc. My daddys name is Bad Boy II and my mommys name is Peaches. I hate dogfood. I mean have you tasted it? It's not that appetizing. Sometimes my human mother takes me for walks but I think when you come by you should tell her to take me on more because I have to catch up on my sniffing. I love clothes. So when you come by feel free to drop me off a shirt or two. Pink is my favorite color by the way. Leopard will do as well. A lot of the stuff in my store is inspired by the one and only me. When you come by i will tell you hello if your lucky. i already know you're going take a picture of me because I'm so cute so give me some money when it comes out in magazines because I'm famous.
